Re: 8.4 Open Beta
Great! Until then, here's some feedback: I really like the mouseover '?' symbols that give simple definitions for what each figure means. We should have even more of those. RCG, PPD, TPF, ETA - no acronym should go undefined. The last time we could see the file size we've downloaded was the desktop ...

8.4 Open Beta
Where do we discuss the 8.4 Open Beta?
Looks like it debuted today, and it's not gotten its own forum subsection yet.
If you haven't updated yet, the new user interface is pretty neat.

If WiFi drops temporarily, progress gets deleted.
My WiFi connection likes to quietly drop out once or twice a week, needing manual rebooting. If folding at home tries to upload during that time, the file is lost to infinite connection failures. If the Wi-Fi network goes back up it just never connects again. If the Wi-Fi network is swapped for a te...

Re: Zero CPUs set, CPU slot running
Over several days, each 0-slot CPU task I was assigned is overseen by Prof. Vincent Voelz.
Possibly he may have insight into this issue.

Re: Zero CPUs set, CPU slot running
Update, it's doing it again.
Just about every time I pick up a GPU work unit, I have to dump three zero-slot CPU units.

Beta prioritizes 18448 and 18449 no matter what
I'm running v8.1.18 on a 3090. Driver is 536.40 Currently, there are nearly a hundred thousand available GPU work units. These two projects, 18448 and 18449 are Influenza research. No matter what cause priority I set, the system keeps handing me these, consecutively. They were always overrepresented...

Re: Zero CPUs set, CPU slot running
While I see your point, if a user is not technically minded then they really shouldn't be using a beta. There are consequences to this line of thinking. Unintuitive design that's 'obvious' to programmers can make its way into the final release. In this beta, some settings and information that was a...

Re: Zero CPUs set, CPU slot running
This forum is more accessible than Github for people who don't have a tech background. When there's an issue that's obvious to techies but confusing to end users, it's going to show up here. The developers should be reading this forum, instead of insisting that anyone who discovers a bug makes a sep...

Re: Zero CPUs set, CPU slot running
Oh, pausing lets you dump them!
My thread on the same problem was right next to yours, but you're the first to mention that.
Thanks!

Re: 18426 Small CPU project assigned 0 CPU slots, causes havoc
That first one passed like a kidney stone, but after I rebooted my computer, more came back. Three work units, all assigned to 0 CPU slots. I dumped the two I could, but the one with some progress had the dump button greyed out. Here's the log as I found it. *********************** Log Started 2023-...

Re: 18426 Small CPU project assigned 0 CPU slots, causes havoc
Hi Joe, Unfortunately since the logs are now cleared on a schedule, we don't have logs. As I alluded to in my original post, it would be premature of me to blame the beta client for the actions of a single work unit or to assume that only people using the beta client have issues with project 18426. ...

18426 Small CPU project assigned 0 CPU slots, causes havoc
This is project 18426 55,28,8 cpu:0. It's a very small CPU task with a base credit of around four thousand. In the new Beta system, it's automatically assigned alongside other projects. So for a system with 1 thread reserved for a GPU, and the rest going to BOINC, it will run without permission, slo...

Variable log length
I've had my computer running without restarting for quite a while. Sometimes the beta's log is extensive and goes back a dozen work units. Sometimes the log goes back for just one or two. In the old version, the log seemed to have a set number of lines. My current log opens with "**************...

'Different' meaning it will be fixed in a different beta or 'different' meaning the feature is no longer possible?
