18426 Small CPU project assigned 0 CPU slots, causes havoc

This is project 18426 55,28,8 cpu:0.

It's a very small CPU task with a base credit of around four thousand.

In the new Beta system, it's automatically assigned alongside other projects.
So for a system with 1 thread reserved for a GPU, and the rest going to BOINC, it will run without permission, slowing down every one of World Community Grid's projects in the process. Tasks that usually take two hours are displaying a two day ETA.

Unlike the other projects, this one's "dump workunit" button is greyed out.
I don't know if that's exclusively a beta issue or not.

Your problem is not the WU or project, but the beta client. I am moving this topic to that sub-forum. However without any information from your log it can only be guesses as to what happened. My initial assumption is that a bug in the beta code of the client resulted in a request for a CPU WU along with the GPU WU. Or there is a misconfiguration.

If you want control over the client so that no CPU WUs ever get requested, then use the version 7 client. It can be set up with no CPU slot and only a slot that will request GPU WUs. The version 8 client is BETA, bugs are to be expected and ideally properly reported. Links have been also provided in the beta test topic to the GitHub for this version of the client where bugs can be reported.

Hi Joe,

Unfortunately since the logs are now cleared on a schedule, we don't have logs.
As I alluded to in my original post, it would be premature of me to blame the beta client for the actions of a single work unit or to assume that only people using the beta client have issues with project 18426.

Leaving my post in its original forum would have allowed other users to corroborate or deny having a similar issue.

The client retains the last 16 logs by default, they are saved to a folder in the same location and the name is modified with a time stamp. An example name is log-20220614-174013.txt from a log saved on one of my systems. So even with the default number that covers over 2 weeks.

The default for v8 is now 90 logs, which are rotated whenever the client launches and every 24 hours.

That first one passed like a kidney stone, but after I rebooted my computer, more came back.
Three work units, all assigned to 0 CPU slots.
I dumped the two I could, but the one with some progress had the dump button greyed out.
