Please add ability to change from pause to finish
Please add ability to change from pause to finish. I had a computer on finish as I'm going to put Boinc on it for a bit. Then I played a game so I paused it. I can't get back to finish without going past play. Which means the finished CPU gets a new task before I can get finish. I wanted to just finish the GPU task.
Re: Please add ability to change from pause to finish
You would need to open a ticket on GitHub to have that feature added.
Or you could set up a separate resource group for your CPU and GPU so that you can independently pause or finish them. Just be aware that the client will no longer reserve a CPU core for the GPU task so you'll have to set the number of CPU cores to use to be one fewer.
Another possibility is to set your max number of CPUs to 0 which effectively will disable CPU folding. Then it won't try to fetch a new CPU WU.

Re: Please add ability to change from pause to finish
I made the suggestion, I'm not doing more work for you, I'm not wasting my time going to another site. It should be dealt with here.
All it's done is make me dump a number of workunits, not really my problem. And no I don't care about the points, I do it for the science. I was just making a helpful suggestion, if you don't want to listen then fine.

I'm not the dev. I'm in the same boat you are. I was just suggesting where to ask to get the dev to see it, since he doesn't read the forum.
Believe me, I agree with you that v8 has a lot of ergonomic issues that need fixing. It's not a matter of me listening or not listening. I'm a nobody.

I guess suggesting in here suggestions should be read in here won't be read! In other forums, they have a sub-forum, group, whatever you call it, called "suggestions" and one called "bugs". Those go to the person equipped to deal with them.

Perhaps the admins in here should pass sensible suggestions to the devs after appropriate filtering
Even Boinc now has the programmer reading the main forum.

Everyone here is a volunteer, same as you.
Nevertheless, some of us do occasionally create GitHub issues for something reported here.
The disadvantage, if someone else does it, is you won’t get updates about it, and your issue may be misunderstood or twisted into something someone else wants.

Re: Please add ability to change from pause to finish
And why can’t you just click fold then finish?
If you’re pausing seconds before it finishes, you should just let it finish and pause itself.

Re: Please add ability to change from pause to finish
I think because then the currently finished CPU resource would start downloading a fresh CPU WU, just for it to get paused right away.

Re: Please add ability to change from pause to finish
There should be a direct line to suggest things, in here for the public, we don't all want to use the programmer's website.
I'll convert my problem into a common one which could happen to the average user:
John is going on holiday tomorrow, so he sets folding to finish. The CPU task comes to an end shortly afterwards, but the GPU is still running. Then he decides to play a game for a couple of hours, so he pauses it. When he finishes the game, he wants it back on finish to get the GPU one done before he turns the computer off tomorrow. But there is no way to switch directly from pause to finish, so he has to go to play first. A new CPU task immediately downloads before he can get to finish. The CPU task will not finish in time and has to be dumped. But then there's another problem, to dump the task he has to pause it again. Now he's stuck in the same position, can't get to finish without yet another CPU task appearing. He now has to go to settings and disable the CPU!
It's like the heater on my car, I can't go from foot to face vent without going through demist, as the dial is just a circle with three points on it, which doesn't rotate forever in one direction. Someone designed the web interface the same way. Instead of three simple buttons, lets have one universal one which actually needs two clicks instead of one and has less usability.

Haven’t read your post yet. Just want to say, inadequate though it may be, the direct line is github, which is linked in the client user guide and one or two other places on the foldingathome.org web site. Guess not obvious. And most people download without reading the guide.

Re: Please add ability to change from pause to finish
Ok.
Two workarounds:
1. Instead of pausing the group, go to group config and disable the GPU. It should become paused without clearing the finish flag.
2. Create separate groups for cpu and GPU folding. Set cpus to zero in GPU group. There are reports that this stopped working. YMMV.
I still recommend you make the github issue.
I can try later. No promises. Or maybe arisu can stab at it.
PS I’m feeling deja vu that we talked about github a year ago and you did make an account and did contribute to some issues and/or discussions.

Re: Please add ability to change from pause to finish
I have used github for Boinc and folding. But I'm fed up of talking about things twice.

Peter, work a little bit on the manners
Oh, I done the suggestion, I'm not gonna move my finger anymore
Come on.
Saying that, I have raised a ticket about resuming from finish state, I probably can tweak that ticket to include finish from pause.
I cannot guarantee the ETA of the implementation, though.

How about 3 times? It is not twice, that's for surePeter_Hucker wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 7:44 am I have used github for Boinc and folding. But I'm fed up of talking about things twice.
