As titled, are there any plans to change this?

My understanding is there is an enhancement request for this to happen, no idea when that will show up. Currently from what I understand the priorities are development of a new CPU core to incorporate new features in the recent versions of GROMACS, and development of version 8 of the folding client. They did hire a second full-time software developer about a year ago, that person left a couple months ago and a new person was recently hired. Somewhere in all that an update to the database code may get done.
