18113 extremely low PPD (25% usual) and low GPU utilization
As above - Radeon 6600xt running 21.8.2 drivers
PPD currently under 200k on this project, while I usually get 600k-700k. TPF is over 7 minutes.
Checking GPU utilization, and it's sitting at 40-60%. Unlikely core bottleneck at fault, as CPU is an Intel Core i9-9900.

Is the clock running at usual levels?

It is, yeah. Just finished it and assigned an 18201 - back up to 625k, no other changes, reboot, anything.Neil-B wrote:Is the clock running at usual levels?

This may be the known issue of AMD drivers being sub-optimal ... have flagged your post to someone who will know.

Re: 18113 extremely low PPD (25% usual) and low GPU utilizat
I asked researchers to disable all 1811x series projects from AMD GPUs.
The problem was that these were running ok'ish on AMD hardware before the release.

Re: 18113 extremely low PPD (25% usual) and low GPU utilizat
I am of the opinion that all future GPU projects be assigned exclusively to NVidia supported cards with a Pascal/Turing or Ampere architecture GPU, until AMD's support team decides that they want to work with the FAH team to fix the performance issues. I will hear no more from Lisa Su about wanting AMD to be a FAH partner (on the iGPU/GPU side of their operations), until her companies words are met with actions.
With that said, I'll be pulling my Ryzen 3's iGPU from folding by the end of this week.

Does anyone have contacts with AMD's marketing team? Maybe ask them to remove the 'AMD supporting Folding @ Home' content from their marketing material, as AMD is no longer supporting Folding properly with their drivers?psaam0001 wrote:I am of the opinion that all future GPU projects be assigned exclusively to NVidia supported cards with a Pascal/Turing or Ampere architecture GPU, until AMD's support team decides that they want to work with the FAH team to fix the performance issues. Obviously we're all hitting the driver team with complaints (and AMD just released another driver today, which...surprise, surprise...doesn't improve anything), but that hasn't helped. Perhaps pushing on the marketing team front, to get the message to AMD through another channel?

This option is being considered as well.psaam0001 wrote:I am of the opinion that all future GPU projects be assigned exclusively to NVidia supported cards with a Pascal/Turing or Ampere architecture GPU, until AMD's support team decides that they want to work with the FAH team to fix the performance issues. We have all the contacts in the world, except Lisa Su, but these usually end in couple of messages exchange and going silent.XanderF wrote:Does anyone have contacts with AMD's marketing team? Suggestion about marketing material is a good one, in my own opinion, however I have no powers to do that.
Thank you

As a thought - I notice the video hosted on that AMD.com page links to a YouTube channel owned by the Folding @ Home team. You can probably disable/delete that video from your channel, which would then break the video embed on AMD's page.muziqaz wrote:We have all the contacts in the world, except Lisa Su, but these usually end in couple of messages exchange and going silent.XanderF wrote:Does anyone have contacts with AMD's marketing team? That will definitely get the attention of someone new at AMD.

Perhaps soon, we will have the Intel Ark GPU's to evaluate as an option.

Especially since the latest versions of the integrated GPUs from Intel have dropped double precision support in the hardware. I am waiting to see what the discrete cards are like, they may be more suitable.toTOW wrote:I have the feeling that it will be another AMD for FAH ...

In the beginning it will be much worse, but since we have people from Intel who actually actively trying to do better, eventually it might evolve into something promisingtoTOW wrote:I have the feeling that it will be another AMD for FAH ...

With AMD we have no one, and AMD seems to be ignoring us completely
