No GPU Intel UHD GRAPHICS 620

Post by Ben2003 »

Hello,

I noticed that the GPU chip cannot be started from FoldingAtHome.

The website only states that the GPU chip is paused.
A screenshoot can be accessed here: https://cloud.soeti.de/s/XfzindWM3SDNjbA

The system runs on Ubuntu 20.

Intel GPU drivers have already been installed.

Can someone tell me how to find out where there is still a problem?

Thanks in advance.

If you open FAH Advanced Control you should find the intel IGP is actually disabled.
Click on the System info tab.
Go to the bottom of the page.

You're looking for the OpenCL 0 report.
If it reads "Platform 0 Device:0" ...etc, or similar you're good to go.

However, if it reads "Not Detected: Failed to open dynamic library 'OpenCL.dll'" ...etc, you need this part before continuing.
I can't help you with this bit, I don't know if it's part of the driver package from intel (not the drivers ubuntu automatically install) or if it's a standalone install specific for OpenCL.

The intel IGPs were added last year to allow for testing to determine its capabilities and suitability for folding at home.
That testing is still ongoing.

I probably shouldn't be telling you this but here's what you need to do if you want to run it anyway.
Open FAH advanced control.
Click "Configure" -> New Window
Click "Slots" tab, highlight the GPU in the list, click "Edit"
Are you an expert? Under "Extra slot options (expert only)" add the following:-
Name = gpu-beta
Value = true

Click OK or Save all the way out.
Restart the FAHClient.
On ubuntu you're best to reboot the system so the FAHClient is properly shutdown and restarted by root. Trying to do it on the commandline using sudo is a bit icky.

If I remember correctly from other chats, Intel IGP support is only available in beta. See viewtopic.php?f=111&t=36524#p346718

Intel GPUs are very, very gradually moving from unsupported to supported.

First, it has to be recognized as supported by GPUs.txt. This only starts at level 7 going upward.
Second, it must have a recent driver AND the OpenCL RunTime code that supports it.
Third, the gpu-beta flag is currently required.

Different iGPUs may be disqualified by any one of these factors, today, and that might change unpredictably.
