RX 480 - Problems

I just set up a second rig for folding, with the following specs:
Ryzen 3 2200g
8GB 3000Mhz
RX 480 4GB Gaming X by MSI

So, I started folding. First WU is from Project 13438.
At first, GPU usage was steady at around 75%. Then it started spiking from 0 to 100% over and over again.
Nothing weird in the logs, only checkpoints. Then after about 3 hours, the local folding browser page told me that the
app probably terminated, but the icon was still there at the lower right corner and gpu usage was back at ~75%.
As soon as I clicked on the icon, the pc just froze. Had to use the on button to close it down.
After the restart minimal progress seemed to be lost, and gpu load averages at 17%.

Any ideas what is going on?

No, I sure don't. Perhaps if you gave us the first 200 lines of your log, (where the configuration details are) we would have enough details. (What OS, what Driver, etc.)

There you go! If I find the time i'll try to DDU back to another driver, cause I think im using a BETA one

Your log stops just before it tries to start Core_22 on your GPU.

Your CPU has embedded graphics, do you have a graphics card as well or is F@H finding your 2200g as a RX 480? It it is the embedded GPU

Its right there, in the log.

No, the vega 8 graphics are shown as stopped in F@H.
And GPU 0 is RX 480. With a new WU from project 17433 gpu usage is averaging 76%.
It could be just a fluke.

Which app are you using to determine the GPU's performance level? (Many folks happen upon the CPU performance level associated with FAHCore_22.)

I'm using GPU-Z and MSI Afterburner to monitor Usage and Power Draw, since I'm always trying to aim for the best efficiency. Todays WUs are up to 91% usage. There are still some 0% spikes that do not seem to correspond to anything particular (say checkpoints).

I just had an error at 99% and now i have 2 WUs shown in Advanced view, one stuck at 99% another, seemingly progressing just fine .
After the restart it went straight to the newly downloaded WU, and left the unfinished one to the side?
Any advice?

Pause and unpause. That should pick up the older WU and re-try it from the checkpoint. If it fails again, pause and unpause until the client gives up on it and dumps it.

I was aiming for a 100% completion rate, I would prefer to save the WU if possible. I was wrong, its Labeled: Ready, at 99% while the other WU is running. I've set the client to Finishing, hoping it will do both WUs.
Otherwise i'll restart the app, cause I have the CPU on pause-on-start.

The reason this happens is that when a WU hits 99% (configurable with the "next-unit-percentage" slot option), it will start downloading the next WU, and if the old WU fails, it'll start folding the new one before it re-tries the old one. I wonder if this is intended behavior. The "Ready" WU will stay at 99% until the one currently folding finishes.

Restarting the client, or pausing and unpausing briefly, will usually make it pick up the oldest one first, then do the newest one when it has finished (or given up on) the old one. I'd try doing that.

Finish up and then pause worked. Ther first WU started from 95%. Lets see if its gonna finish this time around.

If the work unit threw a NaN fault once but not on a re-try then it indicates that your card is barely stable. FAH doesn't officially support over- and under-clocking GPUs, and will tax GPUs harder than games, so if you're doing any under-volting or under-clocking then I'd reverse that. Using the power limiting feature in the driver is a safer way to reduce power draw.

The card is in its stock configuration. I haven't even played around with the Power Limit yet. The *FS02:0x22:An exception occurred at step 999481: Particle coordinate is nan* came moments after the next WU completed its download and seemed to coincide with a sudden drop to 0% gpu usage - as far as I can tell from MSI Afterburner and GPU-Z.
*The card is cruising along at 63 degrees Celsius at 20% fan speed.*
