Hi, I'm a new member of the FAH community, was just wondering why I can't switch to my GPU over my CPU to do the folding.
When I open up configure --> slots --> add and try to select gpu with gpu-index = -1
I get an error of "socket not open" and further more when I open the System Info tab on the FAH softtware I can see that it says I have "GPUs: 0"
What seems to be the issue here? I know my GPU is connected, other softwares can detect it and gaming is running smoothly as usual.
Thanks,
James

This suggests you may not have all the right gpu software components in place. If you could post the first 200 lines or so of your logfile we can help more easily otherwise we are guessing.
Assuming you are running windows your log file will be in %APPDATA%\Fahclient ; look for log.txt

Welcome to the F@H Forum jac049,
Just a shot in the dark (since the log file isn't provided) if you have installed the latest version which is 7.6.9, the GPU needs a slight workaround to ensure you can quickly add a GPU Slot (assumption that it's a Windows system and the default directories are used):
Manually download the GPUs.txt file from here: https://apps.foldingathome.org/GPUs.txt (right-click save as GPUs.txt)
Exit the client
Copy the GPUs.txt file from the Downloads folder to %AppData%\FAHClient
Reboot your system OR Restart your client (which ever is easier)
Start up the client and ensure that you can see your GPU in the log file
Add a GPU slot from FAHControl -> Configure -> Slots tab -> Add -> GPU -> OK -> Save

Re: Cannot select GPU (2080 Super) to do folding
Thank you. I followed you advice and it worked: I was able to add a GPU slot, so now my CPU and GPU are folding concurrently (which will take me to the top of my team's leaderboard by teatime).
Just to add a couple of notes which might help those less techie, like me:
1)I'm using Windows10. My brother showed me how to open the FAH Client Advanced Control: click on the "up arrow" in the extreme bottom right of the screen, click on the globular coloured FAH logo, then click on the Advanced control menu option.
2)The folder to paste GPUs.txt into is shown in the listings of the FAH Client Advanced Control, in the "System info" tab. ("%AppData%\FAHClient" in the post above). In my case it was at C:\Users\[my_username]\Appdata\Roaming\FAHClient

Re: Cannot select GPU (2080 Super) to do folding
Welcome to the F@H Forum JonathanRigby,
I am glad that the issue was resolved. Regarding point 1, that's a good one and will ensure to be more explicit next time. For point 2, if you copy and paste this (everything in bold) %AppData%\FAHClient into File Explorer and hit enter, it will take you directly to the correct folder if the default file path was used. That way, there's no need to guess what your username is and it ensures that you can get to it even if you have turned off the ability to view hidden files (AppData is hidden).

For others, I believe this problem can also be resolved by upgrading from FAHClient 7.6.9 to 7.6.13
