GTX 680 won't fold

Post by AciD_RaiN »

Hi guys I swore I'd never bother you again with my stupid questions but I have been trying now for days to figure this out myself and with help from some pals. So this is the problem:

I downloaded the GPUs.txt and saved it to the Data Directory folder, went in to configure>slots and did add, checked the GPU ring and pressed add, then I put in client-type - beta but I keep getting this error:
Image

If I change the gpu-index from -1 to 1 then something happens but it's not getting assignments.

Here is a log file (i think)

That's why you need to download the GPUs.txt and flag it as beta. Maybe I am misunderstanding something here http://folding.typepad.com/news/2012/04 ... lient.html

After "installing" the file? Is there anything else to do then just download it to the directory folder?

Did you assign

<gpu-index v='0'/>

or did the client installer do that?

Please post your ***System*** section of the log.

Like always, asking stupid questions. Where can I find the system log and I assigned the gpu-index v=0 because when I leave it on -1 I get the error I posted above.

Change to the Expert display mode.

Image

Click on the "log" tab and copy the ***System*** text. Or click on the * System Info * tab and post a picture.

It's the tab right under the green "Online" label.

Yes, it helps a lot. It shows that the GPU is still not recognized (UNSUPPORTED) by FAH.

Actually, do you have 2 of the 680 GPUs?

In to which directory did you download the GPUs.txt file? Did you quit and then restart Fahcontrol after that?

Any word on getting the GTX 680 folding yet? I should ask is there any word on getting better performance on folding yet. I was lead to believe that Nvidia is working on something with the Folding@Home team for better performance on the GTX 680.

Exit the FAHControl. Uninstall FAHControl (start menu link), but keep your data (check box).

Then install V7.1.52 again.

Now download and replace your exisiting GPUs.txt file. No need to edit it.

Download it to C:/Users/Birkir/AppData/Roaming/FAHClient

Exit FAHControl. Wait a minute. Start it again.

Does the GPU in the System Tab still say Unsupported?

Yes, I've see a 680 fold. Folds about the same as a 580 for now...

I read the same thing about optimizing the fahcore to better use the 680 hardware. Pande Group doesn't anounce that stuff until it's ready to release. And they don't typically comment on it until it is "soon" to be released. Almost never give ETAs, so no point in asking. ;)

Watch the News page for updates like that.
