Duplicate Work-Units.

Post by Tigerbiten »

One of my computers has just crunched duplicate GPU work-Units.
Eeyore 4 and Eeyore 7 where both crunching p5761 (2-279-13).

Eeyore 4 log file, runs Machine ID 4.

Code: Select all

[17:47:33] - Digital signature verified
[17:47:33]
[17:47:33] Project: 5761 (Run 2, Clone 279, Gen 13)
[17:47:33]
[17:47:33] Assembly optimizations on if available.
[17:47:33] Entering M.D.
[17:47:39] Working on Protein
[17:47:42] Client config found, loading data.
[17:47:43] Starting GUI Server
[17:48:45] Completed 1%
[17:49:47] Completed 2%

...........
[19:30:16] Completed 99%
[19:31:18] Completed 100%
[19:31:18] Successful run
Eeyore 7 log file, runs Machine ID 7.

Code: Select all

Eeyore 4 is now running p5763 (2-335-4) and Eeyore 7 now has p5763 (3-336-4).
I hope I get credit for both work-units crunched.

There is no report in the Mod database indicating those WUs have been credited yet.

If the duplicate WUs were a result of you manipulating the files (e.g.- moving work from one computer to another) you probably will only get credit for one of them. If the duplication was a result of normal server assignments, you'll probably get credit for both of them.

The box has been up for well over a month unattended.
Its running 8 nVidia GPU clients.
Its only the second time I've seen it grab duplicate work-units.
The time before, two of the client down-loaded the same work-unit at the same time.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I just checked and Tigerbiten, Team 33, did get credit twice. :)

Just picked up on another pair.
I'm crunching p5016(9-702-5) twice.
It seems to happen when the box downloads two work-units at the same time.
This time both connected to the work server at 10:00:17.

I'm just reporting it in case its a glitch.
Or does Stanford send out a few of copies of each work-unit and am I being lucky/unlucky enough to grab two of them.

They are not supposed to do so, but it sometimes happen in a situation described by Tigerbiten (two clients ask for a WU simultaneously).

I've probably done well over 13k work-units on this box spread over 8 GPU cores and this is only the 3rd time I've seen it happen.
In each case the two clients have asked for a work-unit at the same time and got the same one.
