Rehab programs for folding@home addicts?

Perhaps someone needs to come up with a F@H "booster" box you could connect to USB or FireWire on your PC that would work in parallel with your PC to boost F@H output. I'd be first in line for one. The "box" would be optimized to do nothing but fold. You'd plug it in and forget it, sit back, and watch the completed units rise. Every addicted person's dream. The more boosters you added, the more completed units you could rack up.

Thats sounds like a challenge...

i almost ended up there. i found out about folding accidently from my ps3. had the ps3 plus 4 computers. they all went up instantly. then i found myself not wanting to tplay the games i bought the ps3 to play cause i didnt want to interrupt the folding. had to smack myself and straighten that out QUICK. im poor i saved a long time for that thing.

Those GPU clients are just incapable of crunching WUs the real client can do. That renders all those mega-super-points just noise.

I had same problem!
8 PS3's later and I STILL can't play games!

Well, it looks like I am in this bunch of addicts too. I don't have a big powerful machine, but a bunch of boat anchors, but they are contributing. I guess checking on them each day several times make me an addict.

Tell me about it. I bought these mini itx Conroe based boards, two for the kids, one for the misses and the other for a file/print server.
Then I found out about f@h. A reliable 200 to 250 ppd, low power, you know the rest. The misses received hers, the rest have been happily folding for about 8 months now. . . . . . .

Hold on, have to go check my stats...........

Which reminds me, all in all, how's the speed/power of the F@H coming along? Are we keeping up with the need to process more and more complex/difficult folding problems? Or, are the problems we're pursuing out running our ability to come to solution?
I'm saving up for a newer, state of the art PC, but that'll take another year or two.
To make matters worse, the economic "downturn" (crash) will probably slow down progress in consumer computing, as well as the ability of the general public to upgrade to faster and more capable units for a long time to come (at least five or ten years).
Darn! I wish Uncle Sam would upgrade to a new, state of the art ultra-computer at some national lab and donate the old one to F@H to supplement our calculations (fat chance).
We need much more power!

Not really, the economic crisis will turn in the beginning on 2010 and will start revitalizing the real-enconomical market a lot quicker than the financial institutions will take to rebuild themselves. That coupled with tax reductions and a low fuel cost for now should make life fine for most people by the beginning of 2011 and then we can start looking towards the future again. Besides the technology will be developed no matter if the market is a bit smaller, so there will be a huge performance increase as soon as people start investing again.

DJ, I hope you are truly right. WV (USA) is usually the last to see the downturn and then the last to recover. It is just starting to hit here. I have seen my work drop 75% along with my paycheck. Let's hope that the recovery is a lot faster than 2011.
