macOS Device cannot be linked in web client

Post by winter01942 »

I have just installed the F@H client 8.3.18 on my MacOS device (Apple Silicon, Sequoia 15.2), and I am unable to link the machine in the web client.

with v8-3.foldingathome.org/account, nothing happens after clicking the Link button
with v8-4.foldingathome.org, the "Auto-linking client" prompt always appears telling me it has automatically linked however the machine still stays unlinked

thus the machine always shows the following error in the logs

Code: Select all

13:04:48:W :CON1:DNS lookup failed for api.foldingathome.org
13:04:48:E :OUT1:Failed response: CONNECT
13:04:48:W :CON2:DNS lookup failed for api.foldingathome.org
13:04:48:W :Failed to update GPUs
I have tried to load / unload the .plist, as well as upgrading to the 8.4.8 alpha release of the F@H client, but no success

Hope someone can guide me to what I am doing wrong, and apologies in advance if I had missed something during the install as this is my first F@H install on a macOS device

Please upgrade to 8.4.9 beta and report back.

Note also that the link button requests linking, which happens asynchronously. It sometimes takes a reload of web control to get current state.

DNS errors might be fixed using the latest beta.

Installed the 8.4.9 beta, tried unload / load as well as a full system restart and gave it some time

Still the same behaviour, the prompt telling me "The local machine has been automatically linked to your Folding@home account." comes out when refreshing the client, but machine still remains unlinked. I also did take a look at the browser tools Network tab, and I don't see anything happening when clicking the Link button.

Does upgrading require a full remove + install? So far I have just been installing the new client directly.

You do not need to uninstall before upgrade.

The log does not show errors connecting to api.foldingathome.org?

It still does the same

Code: Select all

01:16:14:I3:Loading default resource group
01:16:14:I1:Listening for HTTP on 127.0.0.1:7396
01:16:14:I3:Loaded 0 wus.
01:16:14:W :CON1:DNS lookup failed for api.foldingathome.org
01:16:14:E :OUT1:Failed response: CONNECT
01:16:14:W :CON2:DNS lookup failed for api.foldingathome.org
01:16:14:W :Failed to update GPUs
pinging api.foldingathome.org works fine

Code: Select all

Chees-Mac-mini ~ % ping api.foldingathome.org
PING fah.foldingathome.org (3.136.33.72): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 3.136.33.72: icmp_seq=0 ttl=51 time=304.431 ms
64 bytes from 3.136.33.72: icmp_seq=1 ttl=51 time=324.812 ms
64 bytes from 3.136.33.72: icmp_seq=2 ttl=51 time=343.607 ms

How many clients do you have connecting from the same IP address?

The api server imposes temporary bans when its rate limit is reached. I know that was recently raised, but don’t know what the limit is.

I only have one machine, but good call nevertheless

Switched over to my cellular network and device is linked now. Waiting for work units

Thanks!
