Nvidia 550.120 Linux Driver
Ubuntu 18.04, Z97 MB. After installing the 550.120.run file, my RTX3070 and older GTX960 both go to 100% load and 100% fan speed and instantly overheat to 90C+ as soon as my F@H client starts.
I've tried downgrading the driver by booting Ubuntu in recovery mode and then using the root prompt to reinstall a downgraded driver. I've updated the Nvidia driver many, many times over the years with no issues.
However, after trying every fix shown online, I'm still met with the initial driver install error:
ERROR: An NVIDIA kernel module 'nvidia' appears to already be loaded in your ke$
ERROR Installation has failed.

Clean heat sinks and fans, replace thermal paste, improve box cooling ...
Re: Nvidia 550.120 Linux Driver
Obviously that was the first move I made and as suspected everything was already in order. My research and questioning lies more in newer GPU cores e.g.; 0x24 and their compatibility with older GPUs and Nvidia's latest Linux drivers, not dust bunnies...

Re: Nvidia 550.120 Linux Driver
I believe core 24 currently requires Ubuntu 22 or later because of glibc

But that just makes the core not launch.

Thanks for the response, calxalot. I have looked at the glibc requirements as the GPU log shows some Fahcore returned: Failed_2... errors.

Elsewhere I have come across mention of Core_24 requiring at least Ubuntu 22.04 to have a new enough glibc. That was a single mention. I don't know if they can filter assignments on the servers to require a minimum OS version for Linux.

No, it's not possible to make assignment according to the version of the distribution installed.
Please upgrade your distribution to 22.04 or newer.

If you wait long enough, the core might get rebuilt with older libs. Long enough could be a long time.
