even disabled a gpu slot keeps a cpu core

Post by promeneur »

Even if a GPU slot is disabled, then it keeps a CPU core. This is useless.

The result is the CPU slot gets less CPU core.

You can set the number of CPU threads on the CPU slot manually. When it's set to auto (-1) and full power it will subtract one thread per GPU slot.

I would still keep a thread or two available for the operating system to use.
The CPU folding performance hardly changes but the GPU folding does suffer when you don't leave the airgap for the operating system.

I have my system set to receive "big" packets (proteins with a very large number of atoms), even with the airgap for the operating system I still see the GPU folding suffer but it's only for about 1.5 hours so, less worries.

Yes, leaving a CPU thread per GPU and one left for the OS is good practice when GPU folding, but in this instance the GPU slot is disabled and not in use.
