I have Folding@Home running on 4 laptops. On one of them the "on idle" often does nothing and it runs all the time killing my performance. Sometimes it'll even be working and then in the middle of gaming it's decided to ignore that setting again.
Same problem on the version I installed back in March and I just updated the other day to see if that would fix it. It did not.
This machine is running Windows 7 Ultimate. The other machines are running the following and appear to not have issues.
Windows 7 Pro
Windows 8.1
Windows 10
This machine has an nVidia cards while all the others only have integrated Intel.
Any ideas?

Can you please post the log file? Ensure you include the first 100 lines which will inform us of what the system configuration is and what the client settings are. If you require guidance, please view this topic: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=26036
By default, the client doesn't ignore the on idle setting so something has changed. Once we have the log file, it will help us troubleshoot.

FYI, that log was pulled while paused. As soon as I unpause it, even though I am currently typing this, it start folding.

I recently ran into this with regard to "Finish", but I think it works with "On Idle" as well.
Clicking "Fold" ends "Pause", "Finish", and "On Idle". You may have only wanted to end one of those, but that is not how "Fold" works.
Again, very limited testing.

That would set the CPU to only fold at 50% and completely disable GPU folding.
If that is the issue, why does it sometimes work? For example, when I came to read the previous comment on this computer last night, folding stopped as soon as I started using the computer. Same with again this morning as I am tying this. But earlier yesterday it wasn't working properly and at other times it has appeared to be working (stops folding when I'm using the computer) and then will just start itself even though I'm still using the computer (usually in the middle of a game, Counter Strike Source, specifically if it makes any difference).
I would assume (possibly incorrectly) that if that setting was the issue it would either ignore the "on idle" all the time or not...? It's really a confusing issue to me.

Ultimately the "On Idle" setting is dependent on how the OS reports that status. So if the OS does not update that status reliably, the client may not detect that either your system has gone idle or has stopped being idle. I do not know how often the client checks for Windows, but it normally is "On Idle" if there is no keyboard or mouse input, and the system has either blanked the screen or started a screen saver.
I am not discounting there possibly being bugs in the client in connection with the detection of Idle.
From experience here on the forum, tracking down causes for the client not doing the executed in connection with "On Idle" can be a pain. The wierdest report was a few years ago when one person finally tracked it down to his mouse. At the sensitivity it was set to, leaving the mouse connected and sitting on the desk with the computer read the vibrations from the fans as mouse input. Disconnecting the mouse or placing it on something soft to absorb the vibration was enough to fix things for him.
Not suggesting this is the problem in your case, but trying to illustrate the cause could be in some unexpected place.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I don't think this would apply as that would cause the opposite problem, F@H never detecting idle and therefore never running whereas I have the opposite issue where it will start folding while I'm using the computer.Joe_H wrote:Disconnecting the mouse or placing it on something soft to absorb the vibration was enough to fix things for him.

It's very strange to me that often it works just fine but screws up just often enough to be really annoying and I have to remember to manually pause it before gaming because it just might change it's mind even if it appears to be working fine.
Maybe the Source engine is somehow preventing F@H from properly capturing mouse and keyboard activity?

It is unclear to me why your OS would be signalling On Idle durring a game.
