In the screenshot, you can see I have set my controller to COVID-19.
I did it a few days ago and it says the same it the advanced controller but now that I check I see the project my CPU working on is for cancer.

It is a preference, not an order.
If it was an order, when there were no COVID-19 Work Units, your PC would idle.
As a preference, when there are no COVID-19 WUs, it finds other work to do. The worst that can happen is that you inadvertently help treat cancer.

When some day COVID-19 has long gone, cancer will still be there. It is not a big harm to fight against it.
