If the early stored frames for "all frames" are really long, they will skew the resulting average towards a higher frame time. As performance of cores increases this becomes more obvious as the recent frames are faster than the stored frames. The effective frame time has the slight disadvantage of projecting downtime forwards into the ETA and PPD. Ideally, the best calculation method would be a hybrid that combines "effective rate" for frames in the past, and R3F for frames in the future.

No, but I can add one pretty easily.

Wouldn't it be better to just replace them in "moving window" style where the most recent frame replaces the oldest one? That would make it automatic and would drift toward more recent times if there is enough of a trend to matter.

FAHmon - which version on Vista 64?

Post by Davor_Izakovic »

Hi,
I have Vista Ultimate 64bit and tried to install fahmon 2.3.2b but after instalation I couldn't run it properly. The 'can not access config folder' error kept appearing and I couldn't do anything at that point.
Anyone has fahmon on Vista 64? Which version should I try to install?

In Vista, if you have UAC turned on, you'll need to either disable UAC, set FahMon to run as admin, or simply install it outside of "program files".

Does the directory of the GPU Client point to:

C:\Users\YOUR NAME\AppData\Roaming\Folding@Home-gpu\

When asked for the directory of the GPU Client, point to:

C:\Users\YOUR NAME\AppData\Roaming\Folding@Home-gpu\
That is a different problem.

This may have been asked before, but I couldn't find the answer here or in the the FahMon documentation:

What is the significance of the * when it appears next to the PPD of a client?

N.B. This is the first time I've ever wanted to search for the actual character * instead of using it as a wild card, very annoying!

It means that the PPD is not guaranteed to be accurate. This happens when FahMon is using the psummary value for the frame count, rather than using it's internal calculations. Unfortunately for the GPU2 client this is always on, however this has been fixed for the next release.

Fahmon problems

Post by dino5050 »

I'm trying to use Fahmon, but I don't know what folder I'm suppose to set it to. My cousin told me I have to find cudart.dll, or the work folder, but I have found neither. I'm using windows XP.

Thanks,
Dino

Hello Dino5050, welcome to the forum.

The data files for FAH should be stored at "C:\Documents and Settings\<your_windows_username>\Application Data\Folding@home-gpu\". See if this location exists and get FAHMon to point to it.

The APPLICATION DATA folder under your user name is a hidden folder, so when you look for it, make sure you have changed your view settings to "Show Hidden Files".

or just check the FAH GPU2 short cut for the working folder (right click on it) its there to copy and paste just remove the "" from it when putting it into FAHmon
