Support for Radeon HD 5450

Post by asp.asp »

Hello, I wonder, can you add support for Support for Radeon HD 5450 or it already has it?

My GPU won't start with folding.

Can you help me, please?

Welcome to the folding support forum.

The Radeon HD 5450 is already in the GPUs.txt file and is listed as supported. However as the lowest performance GPU from an 8 year old product line it probably can not complete current GPU work units within deadlines. In addition it is based on AMD-ATI's Terascale architecture, the current GPU folding core works better on GCN based cards.

Thank you so much for the answer.

What is your suggestion?
Should I just folding with CPU, or there is some way that I can help also with my current GPU?

It was the bottom level card when new 8 years ago, and may only have 1/2 gig RAM, the largest version has 2 gig. So on some versions, the WUs won't even start.

My suggestion is just fold on your CPU. You might be able to find another distributed computing project that can use your HD 5450, but for the Folding@home project it is close to being deprecated.

One other issue I forgot to mention in my first post, the HD5450 only supports single-precision calculations. The current GPU folding core uses some double-precision calculations on many projects when needed. So cards without double-precision calculations have fewer possible assignments.
