Low PPD for geforce 1070

Post by beer »

Hi
I am a new owner of a geforce 1070. It seems that I have a low PPD (at least lower that I expected). At the beginning I got around 450.000 for the current WU. I did find found out that Folding@home did to tricker the boost 3.0 (eg the GPU clock was stocked at 1506). Have any other seen this issue?
I have found a workaround for this. If I have the 3d mark window open then the clock speed pf the GPU would be around 1775-1800. That boosted the PPD for current WU to app 540.000 PPD but it is still lower that expected. Does this this sounds fiar to you and is there another solution to the problem with missing boost?

Nope... no tricks. FAH doer not manage your clock-rate. That's the responsibility of the driver provided by your GPU's manufacturer.

http://i.imgur.com/FLxOr5j.png <- I did change the settings and now I donth have the problem with low core clock.

#Foldy yes I did. The older driver was too old to be used with the new card. I dont know if I just got a WU with low PPD.

I am the only one who gets a PPD below 600.000 on a geforce 1070?

Interesting, so you changed it to "Prefer maximum performance"?
It depends on the work units some will get 450k PPD others 750k PPD which averages to 600k PPD.

#foldy. I changed it to "Prefer maximum performance" and it work for a short while. ben then it went back to the base clock at 1500 so now I am back to the first workaround.

So my PPD is within reason when I apply the fix to get core clock to be around 1800.

I dont't know if it is related but my gtx 970 while folding does not run in highest performance mode but a reduced state which only effects vram which runs at 3Ghz instead of 4Ghz.
The "Prefer maximum performance" settings did not change this.
What is your gtx 1070 vendor and model?

I did buy this card:
https://www.proshop.dk/Grafikkort/Palit ... R5/2553898

I dont know why my card run at max speed (~1800 Mhz) when the 3d mark is open but not running (low intencety) but when I am just running folding@home then the card runs at ~1500.

I have received the 2th WU and I am getting a 675.000 PPD on it which is a bit higher than expected (based on the forums posts)

Windows 10 also has power options, maybe this makes a difference?

Did you turn off your CPU slot to test your GPU performance ?

What GPU load is reported by GPUZ while running FAH in each situations (with CPU slot running and without CPU slot running) ?

Use EvgaPreX or Afterburner. Then boost power limit and temp to max, and core clock +100
