There was a problem of some kind with CPU assignments but it seems to have been fixed.

I recommend you upgrade V6.34 to V7.4.4 to get the best service from the servers.

You don't ... except perhaps by upgrading to V7.4.4.

You cannot change servers. He only turned on a client with more than 24 cores that gets automatically routed to a different server based on that hardware.

I will eventually, however this install has an optimised kernel and other bits for optimal PPD and just works, my experience with v7 on Linux has not been stellar so far....

In the meantime, as the v6 client is not deprecated yet I would like to fold WU, forcing a client upgrade to get work and stop use of the old client is a underhanded way of doing things. Until v6 gets work the machine is OFF

7im's correct, I have a 48 core machine and quickly tried the Many Core/bigadv server to see if I could get work from that. Unfortunately I cannot yet - i'll try again later with both WU sizes and see how I get on.

Yes, V6 has not been deprecated ... and nobody is forcing a client upgrade, that was just my recommendation ... it's still your choice.

New features are often added to support the current client and not necessarily tested on previous versions. When servers have problems (like they did last night) the chances of getting assignments improves. V7 does have a wider choice of projects.

I'm very happy with V7 on both Linux and Windows. When was the last time you tried it?

Some people would have you believe that the v6 client is significantly faster than the v7 client, which is silly, because the client doesn't do any processing, only the FAHCores. And the FAHCores did not change between v6 and v7.

Some people would then have you believe that v6 can be optimized to run faster than v7 with some helpful 3rd party tools. Except I saw were bollix tested the two client versions side by side will all possible optimizations installed, and the difference was a percent or two in the favor of v6, well within the margin of error of not having tested using the exact same work unit, but several work units from the same project, averaged out. On a high end server making a very large QRB, even a real 1-2% would seem significant in points due to the exponential nature of the points curve. But it's not significant to a work unit's scientific value.

And some people are more comfortable with using the older client, to which there are only a few small disadvantages, like fewer available projects and fewer servers. The 3rd party tools and folding images are very solid in performance and reliability. As long as the older client still gets work, then there is no strong motivation to upgrade. And that's fine too. Fold on. All donations are welcomed.

is there any way to contact who ever controls the servers to alert them of the hic-up ?

Posting in this forum about the problem is the right person to contact. The Forum Mods take it from there. That way us donor's don't have to keep track of the dozen or so PG people, and which of the 2 dozen servers links back to which one of them. ;)

About 3 weeks ago, I have a gpu install running just fine on zorin 9, my cpu install on Ultimate machine 4.3 is extremely slow - running at half the ppd of the optimised folding image on my other nearly identical machine. I have a thread on this but have not had chance to follow through on the latest set of tests yet.

When i get some free time I'm going to try installing v7 on the folding image and see how that goes

Dittos here on the same servers. No WUs since last night.

I just rebooted, but it did not fix it.

After reviewing todays logs I can confirm all of my systems are posting intermittent Empty work server assignment errors in between WUs, as recent as an hour ago.

Not saying this to be rude but I'd rather turn off my spare systems than let them idle until this issue is resolved, as the last two weeks have had a daily 100-112 degree heat index here.

I have lots of new CPU projects that are not quite ready but should be launched in the next few days or so. I've got two that just went into advanced and will be on full maybe tomorrow, which should help to provide more WUs that should help to match the demand that's out there so far.

Sorry about all this.
