Re: Failed to access core package.
I believe it has been resolved with a new release of the server code. Hopefully you won't encounter it again.

Failed to access core package
Hi;
I have been able to send my last work unit on 26th of September to the server and after that the client fails to access a new work unit. My user name is Kimmo_Laakia and I have been foldong for 12 years without any problems and contact to this forum.
Client status in online and inactive, of course I have downloaded the latest version of the client and rebooted my computer, but I'm still waiting for a new work unit. No changes to the computer has been done during the last weeks.
What might be the next step in order to get started the folding again ?? What additional information is needed in this case ??

Re: Failed to access core package
Welcome to the folding@home support forum Kimmo_Laakia.
There have been some server updates in the past week and it's possible you've been given a work unit that won't work on your setup. The only way we can be sure is for you to post your log as explained at the link in my signature.
Also, have a look at this thread. If it's the same problem let us know and we'll move your post to that thread.

Due to the server problems experienced over the past week the client has received a work unit that it cannot process or even download the appropriate core. You need to open Advanced Control (a.k.a. FAHControl).
Click on Configure, then the Slots tab ... highlight your cpu slot and click on Remove ... click on Save ... then you can Add the cpu slot, OK, Save and it should download a new work unit.

Re: Cannot receive any work units [For CPU:1]
I've been having what may be a similar problem for at least a week. The Advanced control "Slot" window says CPU:7 is where job 2981 seems to be stuck. ID is job 01, in queue with the name of "update core." Job #2981 is a REAL job, but has nothing to do with any core update. Update core is supposed to finish in 2h, 24m; but it's been stuck there over a week. If you go to the Web control window, it says this job has a little less than 585 billion years to be completed. There has been no progress, of course. I downloaded the newest version (7.4.4) AFTER this thing got stuck, and it did no good in so far as unsticking it is concerned. I reported this as a bug about a week ago but have had no response of any kind. What's up? Please email me with a response, as I have no real desire to search these forums (with which I am very unfamiliar and would prefer to stay that way) for a solution.
Re: Cannot receive any work units [For CPU:1]
Re: my earlier posted problem. I did notice that someone had solved what seemed to be a similar problem by simply using the advanced control to uninstall the cpu slot then reinstall it. I tried that after posting my earlier comments, and it worked like a charm. 2 jobs going in that other machine now, as they ought to be.

Re: Cannot receive any work units [For CPU:1]
@RABishop
You have a different problem related to the Assignment Server software being updated last week. Project 2981 is one of the NaCl Chrome client projects and is trying to download Core_b0 which does not work with the Version 7 FAHClient. To correct this, delete the folding slot for your CPU and then recreate it. That should dump the WU that is inappropriate for your V7 client and then download a new WU once you set up the CPU slot again.
Edit: started my post while your post was still in the wrong topic, I see you figured out the solution I was writing up.

Re: Failed to access core package.
Development needs to create a permanent fix for the "Failed to access core package" problem. Based on reports like the ones in this topic, this has happened quite frequently because of a fault in the new AS code. The secondary fault has been fixed but it doesn't heal clients which got hung (other than manually resetting the slot). The problem actually is an old problem which, without the AS problem, still happened but quite rarely.
With attention focused on these reports, Development has come up with some ideas for a permanent solution which will automatically recover from this situation. So, although the troubles you've reported have been a bit of a headache, the end result will be improved code in FAH.

Re: Failed to access core package.
@WacoJohn
Your post has been relocated to the existing topic covering this problem. To summarize, due to a problem with updated AS code WU's for the NaCl Chrome folding client were given to version 7 clients. The quickest way to fix it in your case is to delete the CPU folding slot using FAHControl and then recreate it after the client has dumped the Core_b0 WU.

Re: Failed to access core package.
Se my post above yours in response to WacoJohn. You have the same problem as he and others in this topic that your post was moved to.
As for the AMD64, that refers to the 64-bit CPU architecture that was first done by AMD and then adopted by Intel. So both Intel and AMD will be called AMD64 when running a 64-bit OS, while both get called x86 when running a 32-bit version of an OS. Nothing to fix there.

Re: Package has wrong core type
Without the context, it's hard to tell what was happening. Please include enough of your log to show what hardware you have, what WU is being processed as well as the message you're showing. See below (in my post).Pacific85 wrote:My pc hasn't been folding for a while. the log has this message listed over and over:

Re: Failed to access core package.
Is it working now? It should fail the WU and move on.
