I've received this WU several times and always fails @ 0%. The A3 core crashes and says notify PG.
I received it at least half a dozen times over the last week. I've tried deleting the Queue and Restarting, but I keep getting it back. Sometimes it'll pick up a different WU, but eventually it downloads this one again.

Re: Project: 6013 Run 0, Clone 171, Gen 60
Can this unit be reported as faulty and removed from the list please. I too have caught this one and although it was running it takes 1 hour 15 mins per 1% and I have no confidence it will complete so have deleted it from my queue.
Many thanks

We need more information. Please post FAHlog showing what kind of problems you're having. At this point there are no reports of problems with this WU other than yours.

After deleting the Queue, I got it again at least once today.
The machine it is currently running on has been rock solid stable for months on every other A3 WU as well as A2 Big Adv.

Re: Project: 6013 Run 0, Clone 171, Gen 60
With the server issues today and this unit cropping up again in my queue I've had a disappointing day. 75 minutes for 1% and 380 points in total is not a worthwhile effort especially as, if past experience is anything to go by, it will most likely fail before it completes. Please remove unit from the list.
Thanks
Shunter
Logfile below. At this point I updated Windows for latest updates and re-booted pc and set unit off again hoping for better performance but as you can see it still takes 73 minutes to complete 1%. - historically I would expect 7 minutes per 1%.
Thanks

Re: Project: 6013 Run 0, Clone 171, Gen 60
I also have trouble with this one in as much as it runs so slow that it wont finish in the deadline. This pc (2.4G quad core) normally completes 1% in <10 mins, but is taking >75 per %.
Re: Project: 6013 Run 0, Clone 171, Gen 60
Comparing one project with another project is always a risky proposition. All of us like to decide that one thing is "normal" and something else is not but I've seen repeatedly that once something starts appearing to be normal things change.sirnelsongap wrote:I also have trouble with this one in as much as it runs so slow that it wont finish in the deadline. I'm not saying that your statements are untrue . . . but it always has to be made in comparison to something else.
Maybe your suggesting that the deadline needs to be larger in comparison to the deadline for the :"normal" deadline. In fact, "normal" deadlines have started changing. Maybe not always, but the range has increased.
Maybe you're suggesting the points are less than you expect. (Funny thing: Nobody ever complains when the points are more than they expect. They just call the new value "normal" and complain tha next time they get what they had been getting before.)
Performance varies based on hardware, too. In the past, the Pande Group has not done a good job of hardware detection and assignment customization. They've announced that they're going to do better, but things lkie that take a lot longer than anybody is willing to predict.

I wasn't trying to suggest anything in particular. I was just responding to the earlier post that said that no one else had reported any problems on this WU.Maybe your suggesting that the deadline needs to be larger in comparison to the deadline for the :"normal" deadline. In fact, "normal" deadlines have started changing. Maybe not always, but the range has increased.

However, if a reasonably powerful, dedicated folding platform can't complete a WU in the allotted time it does suggest that something is wrong, whether it's the deadline, or the allocation strategy or the WU is for others to determine.
Project 6013 (Run 0, Clone 171, Gen 60)
This work unit was received this morning and is having the exact same problem as the one in thread "Project 6013 (Run 0, Clone 95, Gen 85)" -- each percentage of completion is taking 75 minutes instead of the usual 7.5 minutes. It is impossible for it to finish within the 3-day deadline time limit. Others have mentioned receiving a number of 6013 work units that cannot be finished in time.
I have seen a mod mention that he could flag a particular work unit as defective. Would somebody PLEASE flag the entire 6013 PROJECT as defective until PG can determine just why some work units take 10 times longer to run than others and then remove those defective work units from the system?
Exactly zero science is being accomplished when machines spend 3 days performing calculations that will then be thrown away because they can't be completed in time.

Re: Project 6013 (Run 0, Clone 171, Gen 60)
This WU has been reported at Folding forums at least a million times in the last month. Ok, a million is stretching it . I have gotten it at least 25 times since it came out. Why PG keeps assigning it is annoying. It is (0,171,60).
My I7 rig is down again as the server has assigned it to me relentlessly over the past week. It delivers a windows runtime error and locks up the CPU until you hit the <OK> radio button. It will then automatically reassign the WU when the client restarts.
I have in the past gotten around it by closing the smpd.exe process (you have to use process tree) and then deleting the A3 file in the SMP folder. Of course all the other stuff as well. I reinstall the client and this gives me a 50/50 shot at getting a working WU. The problem is that this 6013 WU specifically will be assigned again after the other WU completes. I'm sick of having to waste my time for 'workarounds'. It seems this 6013 project is simply riddled with problems and they do not go away.
Anyone else getting this particular WU? Have you completed it if you have? If completed... Why are they still assigning it?
Sean

Re: Project 6013 (Run 0, Clone 171, Gen 60)
Can the servers NOT realize that they have /are assigning non-completeable WU's over and over and over and over and over and over?
Look at the log. This and many others of the 6013 WU class simply fail due to C+++ errors in windows. That is not a problem in and of itself though. The problem arrises where the client and the CPU hang until there is a 'manual' clicking of the <OK> radio button. Given enough time between the error message and the manual 'clicking', the system will crash completely. I have been assigned this WU relentlessly over the past week.
How does this benefit the Science.... An I7 "down" because of a faulty PG WU. There should be some way that PG AS servers could recognize a system that does not/cannot return assignments. If the Science is truly 'most important' to PG..... Why not FIX this problem???????
I'm sure you all can come up with a million excuses for how Donors are trying to "get one over on PG" and most likely will . The question to ask yourselves about the Science is: Is engaging HW in continuous folding better than cramming WU's at HW that cannot complete them?????
If PG has any questions of any relevance to me as a Donor, please ask away. I'll continue to fold, but it is growing continually harder to figure out why. Being a Donor is expensive, being 'taken for granted' is shameful.

Re: Project 6013 (Run 0, Clone 171, Gen 60)
This work unit has now been received THREE times and every time I have to delete it. There is no way it can possibly finish within the deadline and absolutely no science is being accomplished if I let it run for three days only to have the work thrown away.
I have also received a different work unit with the same problem -- see above. Others have reported receiving work units that run for 75 minutes per step. That is exactly TEN times longer than the 7.5 minutes taken by most other 6013 work units.
As far as I know, this issue has been totally ignored. Would somebody PLEASE flag these work units as defective? Would PG please look at these work units to see what is different about them? A wild guess would be a misplaced decimal point somewhere since the run times differ by a factor of 10.

Re: Project 6013 (Run 0, Clone 171, Gen 60)
Sorry about this one. This one was weird. It's not a human error, since it's a Gen 60 (meaning it's been run 59 times ok so far). Also, it's surprising the WS didn't kill it automatically (normally we shouldn't have to worry about doing this manually -- if we did each of these manually, we'd never get anything else done). Anyway, this one is out of control, so we manually killed it so you shouldn't be seeing it.

Re: Project 6013 (Run 0, Clone 171, Gen 60)
The specific WU has been stopped. Feel free to discard any copies that may still be running on your machine.
This is a perfect example of how you can help FAH by searching before you post. Once I merged several different topics on the same subject, the pattern became clear but as separate (and potentially unrelated reports) it's hard to get the " big picture" In the future, if anybody spots more than one topic on the same WU, feel free to use the "Report Post . . . (other)" function and ask a Mod to merge them. (Report either of them and give us a link to the other one.)
I've asked the Pande Group to look at whether this is a few bad WUs or if it's an entire project (and obviously they'll look for a bug in the core, too).

Re: Project 6013 (Run 0, Clone 171, Gen 60)
I think these troublesome 6013's are back.....This one has been on the 1st frame for over 2 hours with no activity, but cpu load is at 100%. i7 @ 4G normally does these in about 3:04.
No error messages from Vista yet like on the previous 6013's.
Another folder at Redline-Redux report a similar occurance this morning with a 6013.
Since PG killed the older 6013 I have successfully completed some newer 6013's, but this one is acting like the old units.
Tried restarting the client and after 6+ minutes gave up. See Log Files
I hope this can be rectified soon as this machine is probably 99%+ effective on A3 WU's.
