Best setup for older clients?
Currently running 2 separate machines.
Both are running Windows 2000 Pro on them and folding with the Windows Graphical Edition client.
Both machines are P4 3.0GHz HT capable using onboard graphics.
What is the best configuration for these machines, or is there a better client for them?

Re: Best setup for older clients?
Just use a single instance of the standard uniprocessor client for each machine.
Re: Best setup for older clients?
Only running one on each.
Using 5.03.
Is there any better client for this setup?

Re: Best setup for older clients?
No, with Windows 2000, you're stuck with v5 clients
Re: Best setup for older clients?
Thought as much. Thank you for responding.

Slight difference, with Linux you can use the most recent clients. No difference in performance, but maybe someday the extra features in v.6 clients will mean access to better WU's.DanGe wrote:Doesn't make a difference...patonb wrote:Bump them to Ubuntu, then run the linux uni.

I think this is degerating into a fanboy debate of Linux vs. Windows, which will get us nowhere.P5-133XL wrote:Slight difference, with Linux you can use the most recent clients. No difference in performance, but maybe someday the extra features in v.6 clients will mean access to better WU's.
The V6 client can be run either way: You can upgrade to Linux or you can upgrade to a current version of Windows. You can also continue to run the older client on your older OS. The decision is yours.
Windows 2000 is a 10-year old OS and in that 10 years, there have been some improvements in FAH v6 that are not in the older clients, but the V5 client still works.
Re: Best setup for older clients?
In my book, Linux can be put where the sun don't shine, for all the use I could get from it.
Maybe my old brain cell ( singular ) couldn't grasp it, but I prefer to click only 1 button to get something going, not 3 or 4 like I had to do with Ubuntu.

Pretty much the reason to do it...P5-133XL wrote:Slight difference, with Linux you can use the most recent clients. XP would be a bit big for max performance of the folding.
Ubuntu runs just like 98se, and if you can read, theres multiple step by step setups...
