Can pain be replaced ?
Hi there im new to these forums and just have a specific question for bright scientists.
Can you replace pain with something different like a pulse for example ?
I dont know how the nerve endings work but im interested in this concept of replacing pain with say a pulse for example or a different feeling
that you recognize.
Pain to me is a waste of time , it should be replaced with something different but do scientists think this is possible ?
Please help

Re: Can pain be replaced ?
I don't see a connection between this question and FAH.
Which clients are you running, and what's your folding name?

Ok but why ask in the folding forum, it's a science question alright and I think it's not a real bad one as well, but usually this section isn't used for a first post on this forum which is I think the reason for the reaction.
Maybe tell us what drove you to ask us, I'm interested in that before going on to answering ( kind off ) the question at hand :

Re: Can pain be replaced ?
I've watched documentary movie, on Discovery I think, where the scientists said the pain is "software" if I can say so, because there is no specific region in the brain to receive those pain signals. Even in the movie they showed a dentist who hypnotize you to think of the pain as something sweet in your mouth So the pain can be manipulated. Also in extreme situations you don't feel pain, because your brain stops responding to it, to give you a chance to think of something that can save your life.
PS: I think the subject is good

Re: Can pain be replaced ?
I wonder is someday they'll produce drugs for the military that block out pain but have no other effects (like morphine etc.)
Then we would have ourselves a REAL master chief.
