Double Gromacs Reduction ?

There seem to be less and less Double Gromacs work units.

Those work units were really great and the use of SSE / SSE2 helped in terms of speed.

Is there a reason for the decline or just no scienfitic use at the monent ?

For what it's worth, 2484-2496 use the regular Gromacs core, but also get PPD rivaling the SMP client on Core2 chips.

For the same calculation, double precision is always slower than single precision so it's not used unless it's needed. Somebody said that they made som internal changes to GROMACS to improve the precision so I think that they're getting almost the accuracy of double precision but retaining most of the speed of single precision. (SSE does more operations in parallel than SSE2.)
