I understand that there's no way to choose which WU's to fold; but,
it would be nice for donors to have the option to concentrate their efforts
on a particular research if they so desire.
In my case, I would like to concentrate my participation in AD & PD research.

In the future, is there a way to select which research a donor wants to participate in
as a 1st preference? If no WUs are available for their first preference, then they can just recieve any
work available.

I do not think that this is a good option. There are not many experts in this field of research and giving the control over the work units into the hands of a massive amount of amateurs - me for example - and only a few experts would make this research less effective. Even if they give out extra points for more important work will this not be as effective as a direct control.

You can decide to uninstall Folding@Home and install a client of a different project, thereby taking control over what type of research you support, but frankly - there is nothing as sweet as Folding@Home!
