What are these red 'Assign Wait' items?

Ever since I updated to 8.4.9, I usually have an extra red item named 'Assign Wait' to my folding list. It has a red time icon and a red progress bar, and the Work Details screen doesn't display anything about it (sorry I can't upload images here for some reason).

Progress usually completes faster than the standard green 'Running Project' items. What are these? Are they ok for me to run? They repeat over and over. Seems weird.

Check the log.
I think it’s usually an exponential back off wait to retry when no work is available for your configuration.

This is interesting, since I already have a line that is running an active task. But I have a second line with these red 'Assign Wait' tasks that seem to go faster than my typical, actual green tasks.

These are strange and never appeared before 8.4.9. Are the red Assign Wait tasks ok? Is something wrong with my PC or my account? Can I keep folding with green tasks coming in? This is all kind of confusing.

Wait assign messages are just warnings that you are not getting any work. Depending on the hardware you might not get work all the time. Color of the message is just visual aid for people to notice that there is an error or a warning

This situation - waiting for a new assignment - could happen in v7 as well, it just didn't show like this. Instead the v7 client would show as a green status 'ready' (I believe).

For my CPU, the WU shows an Assign Wait error with a red progress bar. The machine log shows entries like
20:42:25:I1:WU308:Requesting WU assignment for user Markhl team 66457
20:42:25:I1:OUT30:> POST https://assign6.foldingathome.org/api/assign HTTP/1.1
20:42:25:I1:OUT30:< HTTP/1.1 503 HTTP_SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE
20:42:25:E :OUT30:HTTP_SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE: {"error":"No appropriate assignment"}
20:42:25:I1:WU308:Retry #23 in 8 mins 32 secs
I understand that my CPU has no available assignment. Does the HTTP message mean that the server is down? If so, who would fix that problem? Thanks!

It means: No appropriate assignment

The server is not down. "No appropriate assignment" can be a confusing message, but what it means is that there are no suitable projects for your particular hardware configuration. In other words, there's a shortage of work for your computer specs (or possibly you have a dual core or single core CPU, which is no longer supported).

Thanks! The last explanation was helpful. My CPU just acquired a WU and started folding again. Back to normal. Guess there was just a temporary shortage of WUs compatible with my CPU.
