Is the server api.foldingathome.org overloaded or does it throttle or block ip addresses?
Sometimes logins fail other times they work when adding new machines.
Other times my machines lose connections and status can not be viewed through the web gui.
I confirm the issue with trying to access the https://api.foldingathome.org/ directly from a browser if it is working i get the api page with the list of all the functions.
If not working the site times out.
I can always ping the server api.foldingathome.org perfectly every time, only seems as the web server is not responding or blocking etc.
After some random period of time it starts working again.
Also I can immediately connect to a vpn and it works just fine.
Any info?
Thanks

Re: api.foldingathome.org server issues
It does temporarily block overactive addresses, although I do not know the thresholds. I guess those calls do cause database load, and they want to protect the environment against overloading. After a programming mistake several years back my IP was also blocked for a bit, so I mentally apologized and set up my own software to check job results at least 20 minutes after it is finished, and at most one request every 5 minutes.
You say you access the api when adding new machines, what exactly do you want to achieve?

Re: api.foldingathome.org server issues?
I am not trying to achieve anything out of the ordinary other than adding a new computers to my account or trying to look at the web interface v8-4.foldingathome.org. I have also had this issue with the 8.3 version, so it seems to be FAH server side.
I have 36 machines currently in the 8.4.9 beta version and this has been happening mostly when adding them and login to my account to attach them.
Seems like I can add one machine successfully. Then when I try to add a second machine right after the first it is blocked and will fail login and errors.
After they are attached login successfully they seem to work fine for most part every once in a while seems like they get blocked from talking to the account server and I can not see the live results / work in the web interface until they are able to start talking with the account again.

Re: api.foldingathome.org server issues?
Ah, I don't use v8 yet, so don't fave experience with adding clients. I wouldn't expect that a client would reach out to the api to be honest, as v7 doesn't have/use an account server, but if v8 is designed that way, especially for that many clients the throttling/blocking may be an unexpected side effect.

+1
Started in the last 48 hours, nothing fancy, just regularly checking on my cell phone my rigs. Remains as "loading" or "disconnected", randomly works. No issues in the previous weeks. Using v8.3.18 and https://v8-3.foldingathome.org/machines.
