Temp disable FAH

Post by peterjammo »

One of my laptops has temporarily got a single core cpu. I've removed all slots until a replacement 2c arrives, but not sure whether a new one will be added when I reboot. Since it's a single core, I presume it wouldn't try to download any wu, but I wanted to make sure. Any advice?

Hmmm ... would have suggested pausing the slot and then adding pause-on-start as true in the config ... but with no slot not sure what effect it would have ... have a horrid suspicion it would create a slot and run but someone who knows better than I will confirm if there is a way of getting this to work

The folding client will always have one slot defined, so will recreate at least one after a restart if your remove them all. I would follow Neil-B's suggestion if the laptop does not have a GPU slot.

It won't try to run a wu on a 1-c cpu anyway will it?

It will. In fact there is an installer bug that sometimes causes the request for the first WU to be for only one CPU thread. A recent enough CPU that is not restricted to low power mode will even finish most projects on one thread within the Timeout if run continuously.

I wonder if you can you actually create a cpu slot before rebooting and as part of creating it set/configure paused and pause-on-start as true when creating it? ... Not sure but someone will confirm

Or temporarily disconnect from the Internet and set the slot to paused after the reboot so it will not have a chance to download a WU.

Thanks folks. I disabled auto-connect on my network manager so I could reboot without internet connection, then rebooted to recreate the slot. Then added pause-on-start True. Sorted. Pause on start would have been really handy many times in the last couple of months. Think I'll add it to all my others too.

glad you got it sorted ... it wouldn't have crossed my mind to pull the network plug - must remember that for future :)
