Hello, I'm having issues with my GPU folding. I'm seeing two errors pop up myself but this log will probably be more useful to someone else. I'm seeing a lot of "No WUs available for this configuration" and "BAD_WORK_UNIT (114 = 0x72)"

I've got the latest available drivers via GeForce Experience. I'm also running v7.6.13 of FaH client. I can post more of the log file if needed.

I'm wondering if I have a version of this GPU that isn't whitelisted or something. I disabled any overclocking of the GPU just in case. I made sure I'm not running on battery and the slider is set at least to medium. I did some light poking around to see if I could confirm that my GPU was whitelisted and I couldn't find an exact match for the device ID displayed in GPU-Z. I saw the 640M in there, but not specifically 640M LE...

EDIT: Sidenote/possible issue. For some reason the clock speed seems to be locked in at 1197mhz. I would have expected it to be 2.5GHz. Not sure if there's a setting I can adjust, but I've set the laptop for maximum power and tried adjusting some process priorities but nothing seems to change it.

We could do a lot of work to make this work, just to watch it not be able to complete on time. 96 cores is going to be over 4 times slower than the least GPU you can buy the GTX 1030

The problem is that your laptop, (I don't know the model so I can't say for sure) probably uses a technology callled Optimus, which uses an Intel GPU normally, then switches to a Nvidia to do intense graphics. Since F@H does not support Intel GPUs, it fails before it has time to get intense.

There is not one 'correct way' I can give you to disable the Intel GPU, back in my day it was in the BiIOS, later in the 3D part of the Nvidia control panel. Some one had luck running MsI Afterburner all the time. Like I say, I don't know what will work for you, but if you get it working, it may be too slow to finish.

If you want to pursue this, give us the first 200 lines of the log that have your configuration, that may help.

The 640M LE may work better than expected from the Techpowerup article description. There was at least three different 640M chips released, 2 of them were based on the Kepler chip with 384 cores compared to the 96 for the one based on the Fermi in that writeup. From the GPU-Z report, you have one of the Keplr based chips.

As JimboPalmer mentions, the Optimus tech is the most likely source of your problem getting GPU folding to work. There have been a number of topics posted here on getting laptops with this in place to work on folding.

So I've got a Sony Vaio 2013 SVS15113fxs with a hard physical switch that turns off the intel integrated graphics and exclusively uses the GPU. Optimus does sound familiar, but I have it on the "speed" setting for that. I do wonder if it could still be causing issues somehow but I would be surprised. Stamina mode manually forces everything through the integrated graphics. When the GPU starts working on a unit in Advanced View, I noticed that while the GPU is running, the sensors indicate it is under load, 100% utilization and the GPU clock speeds are maxed. I don't believe the integrated graphics are being utilized based on the gpu sensors, but hey maybe it's still interfering somehow. I've noticed before the errors come up and it resets the work unit that the estimated times to finish on the GPU usually range from 24-48 hours.

I remember reading about how the LE had a more efficient architecture (kepler) allowing for some good overclocking for a laptop card at least. It factored into my purchase decision back then.

Does any of this info change anything?

I almost forgot! I enabled a BIOS level overclock on the GPU (via flashing) a while back that doubled it's core speed. If you look at the nvidia website, you'll notice the core clock is only 500mhz but gpu Z from the first post reports what the BIOS thinks is stock, even though its past factory settings. Never had any issues with stability in real world use/gaming though. I can even squeeze out a bit more in MSI afterburner from there, but I disabled OCing in afterburner for troubleshooting this.

EDIT: As suggested, I found 3d global settings in the nvidia control panel and set the preferred processor to the GPU instead of auto, so maybe that will help too.

I'll run it for a bit with updated msi afterburner up and having switched global 3d settings and see if it still fails to complete and report back. If anyone sees anymore useful info in what I provided and have more suggestions then please by all means let me know. Thanks so far!

Yeah, the 640LE is a bit slower than what GPUz mentioned.
Even if your GPU runs at 1Ghz (Hoping your motherboard GPU, and battery aren't being fried), you can safely dial down the frequencies in MSI Afterburner.
Even if it runs at 1Ghz, setting it to 500Mhz, or a bit higher might work fine.

There is the GT-640M LE, or the 640M.
Best to check the manufacturer's specs on this GPU.
If you flashed the BIOS, there might be wrong info shown in GPUZ.

I've got the GT 640M LE. The BIOS hack locks it in at 1ghz so I can't go lower unless I flash the BIOS again. I managed to find the OP with the BIOS hack but I can't post URLs yet I don't think. However, if you google the title of the post Sony Vaio S Bios Mod For Gt640m LE it's there. I'm confident the GPU-Z info is correct; I spent many days tweaking, reflashing and testing the versions of the BIOS with higher core clocks on each. Although I don't use this laptop for much anymore, it's been set this way for years.

It's still slower than I expected for FaH but it hasn't failed since trying the above suggestions so far. Temps haven't gone above 70c on GPU or CPU yet either luckily, but I'm sticking to medium folding to be safe.

The ETA updated to 3-4 days(CPU) and 4-5 days (gpu) but it's still under the time limit to complete the current WUs. No fails, stops, or errors yet *knocks on wood*

Anywho, been letting the lappy run all night and the GPU ETA went down to about 3.5 days for a decent amount of points without error. Something seems to be working better now. If anymore issues occur, I'll post here. I pretty much only tried the suggestions I found in here so far so thanks to all for the tips and help! I have 4 active clients now.

If you're folding on a laptop, it's probably best to disable CPU folding, when you have a GPU folding, simply because most laptops are created for occasional loads, not continuous loads.
Good laptops usually pass a CPU or GPU stress test, but very few actually can deal with both CPU and GPU stress tests at the same time.

I would suggest to install HWMonitor, and keep an eye on CPU and GPU temperatures.
Also, if you're able to open the laptop (or provide some extra cooling from the bottom), just to make sure your battery isn't being heated.
Temperatures and charged Lithium batteries is a recipe for disaster.
