If this is a new project for you the client has no data to generate any type of estimate ... once 3-5% has been completed the estimate becomes much more valid ... 1,000,000 steps is the high end but could be valid - 14416 is big/has many atoms ... but also has the 2nd highest base point of any project ... give it a while and I think you will see the estimate tumble to something more representative - it may well still be significantly longer than some other WUs you are used to.

Not sure what you local timezone is so can't tell how long it has actually been running - but to complete within Timeout something just less than half an hour per fold would suffice - so you may need to wait a couple of hours to check that if there are really issues.

I am slightly surprised as the GPU you state if it is this https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/r ... 7570m.c399 appears not to have Double Precision Floating Point capabilities which I thought was pretty much a requirement for GPU cards to be able to fold ... When did you last fold with this card?

It's been between one and three days since I started this unit; it's crawled from (according to the Advanced Control UI) 0.53% completion to 0.58% completion since I begun this thread, so (extrapolating:) I suspect it's been running for several days.

I'll check back in 8 hours and see how it all is then.

I keep all my devices on UTC: the ones with me, I'd rather not have to think about timezones; and the ones that aren't on a cross-country journey, I'd rather also not think about timezones on  (scheduling meetings is so much easier without them; I've only got to worry about my clients' wall clocks, and not my own)

That is (modulo any deficiencies in Techpowerup's DB) my card. For what it's worth, the field OpenCL™ Version in the Radeon settings lists 2.0.4.0, and I've watched the GPU slot finish maybe around 3 units so far (I've been running it for a few days); not counting any that finished during the night or while I was away (I'm not keeping track of it very much; I only know about the 3 GPU units for sure because I, too, was vaguely surprised that it supports everything needed). I've been folding with this card for about a week.

It isn't the OpenCL that worries me http://www.gpuzoo.com/GPU-AMD/Radeon_HD_7570M_DDR3.html also shows no Double Precision Floating Point for this card ... From everything I have seen on the forum lately it really surprises me that it has actually been completing WUs.

Hopefully someone will be able to advise you soon ... From what you are saying this WU won't get finished and will probably need to be dumped but there a good ways to dump WUs so I am sure someone will advise on that.

hmm. I think the GPUZoo database might be outdated; preliminarily: it conflicts with this report by "ohansfav" at gpuinfo.org reporting it's running OpenGL 4.5; this agrees with Wikipedia's broad claims about TS2 capabilities, but disagrees with GPUZoo and Techpowerup's 4.4 listed for this specific card.

My earlier intuition that the numbers in Radeon Settings UI are externally-meaningless Library versions was, sadly, confirmed by the OpenGL "version" being 6.14.10.13417. Further disappointingly: clein 0.2 was unable to even see my GPU, despite recognizing amdocl.dll as apparently the only provider library on my system. ( :?: how odd)

So it looks like wrt "real [fresh] data" about the card we're SOL until I can rez up a Linux distro and try clinfo and glxinfo.

In any case, the rate has continued preeetty much precisely as estimated since earlier (now 0.64%); so I'm not going to be "holding my breath" for not-dumping this WU being suddenly revealed viable; though I do await seeing the Proper Procedure to do so. :( (not to mention, it'll be interesting to actually observe/record the project IDs of the WUs it is completing, once this dud's out of the way.)

I am reasonably certain that I'm not imagining having witnessed the GPU slot process WUs before: I observed it intentionally for that purpose; I believe I remember contrasting it with the CPU slot's WU-per-day rate and previously noting no order-of-magnitude discrepancies between them, and I remember musing over the fact that Project 01 was assigned to Slot 00 and vice-versa.

I am surprised as well. Has the log actually reported the WU getting past Step 1 to completing a full percent? From what I understand about this project, it spends a considerable time on the CPU getting the data set up to be processed on the GPU, and can use a lot of VM in the process. Once it started processing on the GPU, then you would see if it failed on the DP calculations.

Now the GPU should have been able to complete some older projects' WUs, they did not require DP. And there was a test done when they first decided to do some critical calculations in DP that offloaded those to the CPU. That did not work well enough and was abandoned.

Could you post the beginning 100 or so lines of the log that show the system info as the client sees it? It would be interesting to see which driver and OpenCL version is seen. Other information I have come across is that AMD dropped OpenCL support in the drivers a few versions ago for the older Terascalle and some of the early GCN based GPUs.

As for seeing what happens under Linux, you may have to stick with an older version for the same reason, OpenCL support in the drivers.

yes- it did just recently:

Code: Select all

16:37:41:WU00:FS01:0x22:Completed 10000 out of 1000000 steps (1%)
The Progress bar is, as of now [posting time] at 1.04%
From what I understand about this project, it spends a considerable time on the CPU getting the data set up to be processed on the GPU, and can use a lot of VM in the process. Once it started processing on the GPU, then you would see if it failed on the DP calculations.
I assume that this (seemingly-crucial) transition-point is, sadly, not logged anywhere?
Now the GPU should have been able to complete some older projects' WUs, they did not require DP. And there was a test done when they first decided to do some critical calculations in DP that offloaded those to the CPU. That did not work well enough and was abandoned.
So you're saying that there's a chance [the older projects which finished properly] had some beta-code which DOES cause 64-bit floating point math to fall back to CPU on unsupported GPUs?

Or that [14416 (0, 580, 9)] contains this fallback code and it's causing the problems?
Other information I have come across is that AMD dropped OpenCL support in the drivers a few versions ago for the older Terascale and some of the early GCN based GPUs.
That is...absolutely disgusting, if true. :eo and it looks like it is.

Relevant excerpt:

Code: Select all

17:48:02:WU00:FS01:Starting
17:48:02:ERROR:WU00:FS01:Failed to start core: OpenCL device matching slot 1 not found, make sure the OpenCL driver is installed or try setting 'opencl-index' manually
17:49:39:WU00:FS01:Starting
17:49:39:ERROR:WU00:FS01:Failed to start core: OpenCL device matching slot 1 not found, make sure the OpenCL driver is installed or try setting 'opencl-index' manually
17:52:17:WU00:FS01:Starting
17:52:17:ERROR:WU00:FS01:Failed to start core: OpenCL device matching slot 1 not found, make sure the OpenCL driver is installed or try setting 'opencl-index' manually
If I'm interpreting the situation correctly: Not only are they no longer updating the drivers, but they sent one last "F.U." (Farewell to You) update to the legacy GPUs dropping important standardized API support.
As for seeing what happens under Linux, you may have to stick with an older version for the same reason, OpenCL support in the drivers.
Well, thankfully I think the folks running the Mesa graphics driver system over at Linux are far less likely to pull shenanigans like that- even the infamous Poulsbo/GMA500 chip never experienced degradations in driver functionality under theirs (but it did under Intel's drivers).

...

Well, I'll try downgrading the driver to WHQL 7/29/2015 and see if that works. If not, I'll drop this WU; and if this bizarre slow-work bug happens again then I'll just delete the GPU slot until it's running Linux again?

15.100.1062.1004 (2015-08-03) from "amd-catalyst-15.7.1-win10-64bit" causes CLein to see the card as simply "Turks" (and as unsupporting double-precision floating point arithmetic).
