(Solved) MacOS: Browser doesn't find client, times out

Post by tvstrategies »

Synopsis: How can I get multiple browsers on the same computer to use the FaH client software?

---

Details: I have multiple browsers on my Macbook Pro, and the browser that I was using when I initially installed the FaH client (v7.5.1 Mac) works with it. When I quit that browser and relaunch, FaH still works. So far so good.

BUT, I use two other browsers as well. Those browsers will not invoke the FaH client when I point them to

Code: Select all

https://client.foldingathome.org/
Instead, those other browsers time out after 30 seconds and ask me to install the client
Even though the local client was already installed (located in the Mac's Application directory)
So I installed the local client again anyway, but still, none of the other browsers can find the FaH client.

Please tell me what to do, step by step: "Here is step 1, step 2, step 3.... Don't answer with "just do this"

Thank you

Further details:

Browsers are all current as of the time of this post
Firefox Mac v74
Firefox Mac ESR release v68.6.0esr
Safari Version 12.1.2 (12607.3.10)

Computer is running MacOS X 10.12.6

With Safari I find changing the URL to use http instead of https usually works. You may need to refresh a time or two before it connects.

I have never had any problems with Firefox, but I am still on an older ESR for Java compatibility, so have no recent version to test with.

Hi Joe - Yes!!!

Changing the URL from https > http worked for both browsers.

Thank you!
