BAD_WORK_UNIT (114 = 0x72) 2080 Super

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though NVidia has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

BAD_WORK_UNIT (114 = 0x72) 2080 Super

Post by tarka_dahl »

Got a 2080 super not long ago but only just got round to setting up, it is in an old i7 2600K ITX system, have put in a new hard drive today and a fresh install of windows along with the newest drivers from nvidia. Also reset the bios.

Checked it is seated properly, doesn't even start processing the unit before saying it is faulty.

No other systems to try the card in until I get back to work, any ideas to try?

Code: Select all

Jertzuu, many different errors can cause the "BAD_WORK_UNIT" message. After checking your other post, the error message you have been getting about the "Bad State detected... attempting to resume from last good checkpoint. Is your system overclocked?" and "Following exception occured: Particle coordinate is nan" is a different error than what Tarka_dahl is getting. If you look in the posted log, the specific error Tarka is getting is "ERROR:exception: Error compiling kernel:".

Tarka_dahl, the only suggestion I have for getting the 2080 Super working is doing a clean install of the most recent drivers. If that does not work, perhaps someone else can chime in with some further ideas.

MrFrizzy, tried that along with a clean install of Windows. Also tried older drivers. I'll try another set today and see because why not. Until lockdown here is finished I can't plug the card into another machine.

Just tried even older drivers, same issue. May go and try Ubuntu, that would confirm it is hardware at least.

I do wonder if using an OLD motherboard/cpu is causing the issue. The 2600k and itx board it is in will be around 10 years old.

I had the same error every time when I tried to rise (not really overclock ;)) memory and GPU-clock
now I'm back to: memory 6900MHz (+100), GPU 2010MHz (+50), power 100%

Same error with a GTX 1060 on Ubuntu 16.04 with the 430.64 drivers.

No idea where to even begin troubleshooting it. It's an old system, but 100% stock, no overclocking.

My bad  But do you know where I could start troubleshooting? Already reinstalled the drivers and lower clocks on the GPU. I'm really struggling to find a solution

*Edit* Reinstalled the client and made sure all previous data was deleted from my PC. So far so good, and seems to be working fine so far

*Edit 2* Did not help, got a project going for 30min after which it crashed again. Any help is appreciated

It's unfortunate, but FAH is one of the best stability test for hardware.

Luckily, you can get it replaced ! :)
