Stuck at Download

Post by dswatski »

Is the server down? I've had this problem for a few days now. It is at retry attempt 19, AND it says the next attempt is at 3 hours and 47 minutes. Why so long to retry? I'm almost ready to give up on this. It worked well for several days, but now...
Is it just plain overloaded?
Thanks.

There are multiple servers, not all have work for all types of configurations requesting work assignments.

The timer on the requests is set to increase the time between requests to avoid overloading servers after an outage. It is not optimal for this situation where the servers are getting more requests than they can handle at once, but is what is already coded into the client software.

If the time between requests gets too long, pause the client, or single slot not getting work, and have it start after waiting a minute or so. Please do not overuse this, that would just add to the overload.

They are working on getting more servers and projects online, but the response to the various media and other mentions has been a bit overwhelming. The servers have gone from putting out less than 10,000 WUs an hour two weeks ago, to around 100,000.

Thanks Joe_H. I looked at the log. It is now checking every minute or a half or so. The log corresponds with your response:

20:56:43:WARNING:WU01:FS00:Failed to get assignment from '65.254.110.245:8080': No WUs available for this configuration
20:56:43:WU01:FS00:Connecting to 18.218.241.186:80
20:56:43:WARNING:WU01:FS00:Failed to get assignment from '18.218.241.186:80': No WUs available for this configuration
20:56:43:ERROR:WU01:FS00:Exception: Could not get an assignment

Hopefully it will resolve soon. I will let it climb then between rechecks. I made it up to 177 WU's and then it just stalled.

Too bad it can't take advantage of an AMD Pro Vega II. Personally, I would like to contribute to the current Corona virus, and then Parkinson's. I saw the recent effort of the U.S. to use a supercomputer. It looks like what FOH is doing, so perhaps I am a drop in the ocean, but if this can help, I'd like to. Thanks.
