Any Way to Set F@h GPU Load Cap in 2020?

From what I've read on older threads, F@h has no way to set a GPU cap when it's using GPUs for folding.

So if the client uses your GPU, it's going to run at 99-100% capacity until it's finished.

I want to use my GPU for folding alongside my CPU, but it's interfering with my Wifi network adapter.

Changing my network adapter's frequency to "20MHz Only" only somewhat alleviated the issue (it's now usable, but still slow).

I don't mind the extra heat and fan noise, but the impact my GPU's interference has on my Wifi speeds made me remove my GPU slot completeley.

My question is, after serveral years, has a way to set a GPU cap for folding been added to F@h?

No worries if there still isn't, but it would be nice to have one in the future.

Wait, what? Why is the GPU interfering with the WiFi signal? Are you on 2.4 or 5.0 GHz?

Within the folding client, no there is no way to set a cap. Most persons who have been folding a while use an utility to set a power limit for the GPU.

Can you tell me where to find this info on my Windows 10?

Originally on my Device Manager, my Wifi network adapter was on "20_40MHz" and my network speeds became unusable whenever my GPU was being used for folding.

Setting it to "20MHz Only" somewhat alleviated the issue, but I was still getting speed hits.

Unfortunately, my network adapter only supports USB 2.0, and the ports on the front of my system unit are 3.0, so I can't move it far away enough from my GPU.
USB extensions don't help either because my network adapter doesn't get enough power.

Is there anything else I can try to prevent my GPU from interfering with my network adapter?

Really? What utility do you recommend to set a GPU cap?

On Windows use MSI Afterburner to limit GPU power usage.

@foldy Thanks! I'll try it out!

UPDATE: After installation and without configuring anything else in MSI Afterburner, I set my GPU's Power Limit and Temp. Limit to their lowest possible setting (70% and 65 degrees, respectively) and applied the changes.

However, when I checked my GPU's performance while folding with GPU-Z, I saw that my GPU Load was still maxing out at 99-100%.

What configuration in MSI Afterburner do I need to change to limit my GPU's Load while folding?

USB 3 ports should still work with your network adapter. Give the front ports a try. Or you could get a powered hub to get the adapter away from the back if the front ports really dont work.

@Rel25917 Sadly, my network adapter seems to be from a model that's so old, 3.0 ports don't even power it on.

A powered hub does sound useful, but I don't really want to get one just for the sake of folding. I'll probably get one in the future when other USB needs arise.

Many thanks for the suggestion, though!

As I understand it, MSI Afterburner reduces your GPU's clock speed to limit power usage and temperature. So your GPU is still running at a high percentage usage of the shaders processing the data, but it is being done at a lower clock and therefore slower.

Hmm, I see... So by the looks of it, I guess this is as slow as I can get my GPU to work with MSI Afterburner, huh?
Nothing I can do about the GPU load itself?

You could try setting the number of cores the gpu is allowed to use, I haven't done so, maybe someone has and could advise.
