Manual server selection

Hi I'm a little new here. I know that the servers are getting hammered with all of the new donors joining.

I noticed in the log that my client is only trying to connect to 65.254.110.245 folding@home server. According to the https://apps.foldingathome.org/serverstats page it has errors and warnings because of the load it's under (I assume). It also tried to connect to 18.218.241.186 but that isn't on the server stats page.

Is it possible to manually connect to other servers that seem to be up and have public jobs available or are ALL servers queried automatically for available WUs?

Thanks in advance for clarifying and volunteering your time!

Quite new here myself, but as far as I can tell, an Assignment Server (AS) needs to direct your client to a Work Server (WS) to get a Work Unit (WU). So there's no manual connection possible, you are probably already getting directed to the other servers, they are simply overloaded or do not have any WUs to distribute (not sure if "jobs" are waiting to be distributed, or if it also includes already distributed WUs being processed).

assign2.foldingathome.org resolves to 18.218.241.186, not sure why the stats page has a different IP.

This is spot on. The AS should act as a load balancer and direct the client software to the correct WS to pick up the workunit. The servers are just overloaded at the moment and it should clear up once they get more online and more WUs in the queue.

That may be provided as redirect for older software that points to assign2 when it was hosted at Stanford. Currently it is hosted on AWS.
