Lubuntu 18.04 and 18.10
I can no longer find fahclient in my init.d folder.
I don't know what happened to it.

is there a different location to start the service, or is fah dependent on some startup services?
I did remove some startup services I think I didn't need, but didn't see which one are connected to FAHClient.

thanks in advance!

I use Ubuntu 18.04 and install this way

Code: Select all

wget https://download.foldingathome.org/releases/public/release/fahclient/debian-stable-64bit/v7.5/fahclient_7.5.1_amd64.deb
apt-get install ./fahclient_7.5.1_amd64.deb
and FAHClient is still found in /etc/init.d/

Code: Select all

cd /etc/init.d/
FAHClient

The service is still running. Perhaps I'll have to reinstall it.

It's normal for the service to run 24x7, just like the other Linux services. (Your printer service runs continuously, but it doesn't do anything until some other app queues up a file to be delivered to your printer.) The FAHClient service is responsible for uploading and downloading WUs. It doesn't do anything unless there's a file to be uploaded or a FAH slot has been configured to request an new WU when your system runs out of WUs that can be processed.

If you want to stop a FAHCore* from consuming resources, go to FAHControl and set your slot(s) to FINISH ... or temporarily do a PAUSE.
