AMD RX Vega
mod note - multiple topics from here and FAH Hardware merged
AMD RX Vega available for preoder. Tech specs are known.
Is any way to predict/pre-calculate vega`s productivity for folding?

Re: AMD RX Vega
You can compare RX Vega to Amd Fury X. They both have 4096 shaders but clock of RX Vega 1500Mhz is 50% higher than Fury X with 1050 Mhz, due to reduced structure of 14nm to 28nm. That also matches the Tflops where RX Vega has 13 Tflops and is 50% faster than Fury X with 8,6 Tflops.
As Fury X make 425k PPD the RX Vega will make 850k PPD like a gtx 1080.
But the RX Vega uses upto 300 watts while gtx 1080 uses 200 watts.
The 16nm process used by nvidia is still more efficient than the 14nm used by AMD.

chemist_slime reports: vega fe folds at ~600k peak ~850k
https://hardforum.com/threads/amd-vega- ... 1043115511
but by chemist_slime graph on last weeks
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/ ... =&u=165190
there were hits to 1,110,392 points on 07.23.17 and to 1,019,003 on 07.29.17
was them produced by vega only or by any additional hardware - don`t know

Re: AMD RX Vega
AMD RX Vega 64 should match Vega FE Frontier Edition and get up to 850k PPD at 300 watts for $500
AMD RX Vega 56 has less shaders so get up to 700k PPD at 200 watts for $400
So this is an alternative to the Nvidia GPUs GTX 1070 and 1080.

Re: AMD RX Vega
The norwegian tech site TEK.no tested FAHBench 2.2.5 on the AMD RX Vega 64. I haven't seen other tech sites test the Vega 64 with folding.
In «Single Precision» OpenCL it scored 110.9

Any chance of having RX Vega added to the white list please?

Re: AMD RX Vega
Anyone out there with a Vega 64 / Vega 64 liquid cooled and test it with a lot of different WUs yet? I'm looking to replace my Fury X (mainly to have something I can sit on with more than 4GB of memory for a few years) and right now, Vega is looking to just barely meet expectations. Folding@Home performance will probably be the kicker, and I want to see if AMD can take back the folding crown with this compute-heavy architecture they have come up with.

No one is folding on one yet, the cards' ID has not even been added to the GPUs.txt file yet - viewtopic.php?f=83&t=30221#p297047. Monday was the release date for the two cards.

Re: AMD RX Vega
Ah, I forgot about the GPU whitelist file. And yeah... it is a bit early to be hoping for PPD numbers already with the cards releasing barely 48 hrs ago, on top of stock issues that always come with anticipated releases.
Thanks for the info about the GPUs.txt though, I'll be waiting with high hopes for those numbers to start to roll in!

Re: AMD RX Vega
I heard AMD Vega supports half precision FP16 with double speed than normal FP32. Maybe next FahCore could support that or is it no benefit for folding?
Re: AMD RX Vega
I doubt that half-precision will be accurate enough, but somebody at PG will need to say one way or another.
In fact, the current FAHCore_21 runs in mixed precision, using primarily single precision but using a limited number of double precision operations when needed.
Then, too, it would take a re-do of FAHCore_2x.

Re: AMD RX Vega
Half precision AFAIK is not used by FAH at all as it's NOT accurate enough.
Based on the FoldingBench tests, the Vega 64 looks like it's going to fall in the 650k balllpark range on average, between the 600k of the GTX 1070 and the 700k of the GTX 1080 (again, those are BALLPARK figures, specific model of card will change that quite a bit due to "OEM factory overclocking" and higher TDP on many OEM cards).
Given the MUCH higher power usage of the VEGA cards, I'd say "don't bother getting them to fold on, but use them if you have other reasons to get one" - kinda like the GTX 980ti by current standards.
BTW - did anyone else notice that "chart" claiming that the GTX 950 is capable of almost 700k PPD?
Makes me TOTALLY disinclined to trust that chart when they can mess up that data point SO BADLY (the GTX 950 struggles to hit 150k in actual usage).

Hope it is not my chart... I check it. No it says 115k PPD for gtx 950 but that may not be perfect accurate either.
