installed folding@home beta version. set cpu manually to 2, same number as physical core, no hyperthreading.full power. cpu usage is stuck at 50%. no logs. in windows 7, cpu usage was 100% at this setting.

When the CPU slot option is set to "-1", how many CPUs does your machine report?

Unless the installation did not go correctly, there should be a log file. So are you saying nothing shows up in the log pane of FAHControl or the AppData directory used by the folding client? What does the System Info tab show for CWD?

i always disable logs, set power to full, manually set cpu core number to 2. in windows 7, this setting showed 100% usage. client version was and is latest beta. 50% usage in windows 10 clean installation from original iso.

Without the logs there is a limited amount we can do to help you troubleshoot your installation. You also did not answer the the other question about the working directory. In addition, which installation directions for folding did you follow?

Is it correct to assume the hardware is identical and you have ONLY changed from Windows 7 to Windows 10? If that's true, do a standard install of FAH with all the default settings. You'll then have logs to allow analyzing the problem(s) further. If you want to strip out what you consider to be unnecessary logging after the problem(s) solved, go for it. You've been around long enough to know that you'll get lots of help if you have the logs, since that's where all the diagnostic work starts.

CWD is default, no modifications done.

correct assumption. as per your request, have performed a clean installation now without any of my manual configs.

this is all that shows, followed by work unit progress percentage. same as 7, but here, task manager shows 50% usage for fahcore_a7/fahcore_a4

Apparently the AS reduced the CPU:2 request to CPU:1 for this particular assignment, that is causing it to only run at 50%. Why I can not tell, the WU download prior to this log. For this type of assignment the WU and core wrapper code will keep the processing limited to CPU:1.

There still seems to be a crippling legacy installer issue where the very first CPU work unit will ONLY run with 1 cpu core. It should revert back to using as many as configured after the first WU completes.

Since this message shows up in the log:
Code: Select all
07:22:41:WARNING:WU00:FS00:AS lowered CPUs from 2 to 1
it might be something different than the installer bug. The slot is shown in the log as being set for CPU:2.

Agreed. If the next WU does the same thing, then it is something else.

@FAMAS: By the way shouldn't the i3-2330M as 2 core/4 thread CPU be shown as CPUs: 4? Or did you disable Hyperthreading?
