Similar issue here after I completed the WU. Error at the bottom of the log. Included header with OS and mem info. I am running MSI Afterburner.

Could you post the beginning section of your log with the verbosity set back to the default of 3. Verbosity 5 does not give any additional useful information and actually obscures the useful information about your setup.

Were a lot of other programs loaded at that time? I'd think that 12 GiB would be plenty.

I do notice that you're running a pre-release version of Windows 10.

What are the settings associated with limitations on virtual memory?

This is a different error UNKNOWN_ENUM (127 = 0x7f) than OP had UNKNOWN_ENUM (-1073740940 = 0xc0000374).
Looks like Core_17 was running fine to end then Core_18 was loaded and didn't want to start.
I do not believe this is a memory problem. Huge memory usage on initialization is with Core_21

It could just be overclocking. I got the crashes all the time, though not right at the beginning, on my EVGA GeForce GTX 970 04G-P4-2974-KR 4GB SC. It is factory overclocked too much for Folding.

With Nvidia Inspector, I had to reduce the GPU clock from 1165 MHz to 1100 MHz, and increase the power limit to 110%, to get it stable. But that brings up another issue, the really weak error reporting of the FAH Client; I could have caught it months ago otherwise. Also, HFM.net did not show any errors, probably because it recovered from each crash. But a lot of time was lost. I don't have the problem nearly as much on my GTX 980 or 960s, for whatever that is worth.

Yes, pre-release OS could be a factor. Perhaps I should only fold on a release version. Hate to have the team chasing ghosts due to OS issues. No other apps running other than a browser. I never get close to using 50% of the memory on this PC. Virtual memory (paging file size) is 2432.

Stanford does not support overclocking, but lots of folks accept the responsibility to rule out that as a factor when reporting troubles.
Since you're running Windows, you probably should read this discussion: viewtopic.php?f=50&t=28588
FahCore_21 is more efficient than previous cores and thus generates more heat so what you once though was stable really may not be.

Regulating the temperature as suggested in that link could help, but a lot of overclocking problems are not temperature related. My GTX 970 never gets above 74 C in the winter (usually about 70 C on core_18), and still produces errors when overclocked too much. I have seen that on previous-generation cards too (i.e., Kepler) at even lower temperatures. That is, overclocking can cause timing problems even without an excessive temperature rise. At any rate, you do what you have to for any given card, and it is usually a little different from one card to the next.

FWIW I found that my problem was not due to overclocking at all. That became apparent after reducing my GPU clock to 1000 MHz, way below the card's overclocked value of 1165 MHz (as shown in GPU-Z), and even below Nvidia's specified value of 1050 MHz. I even reduced the memory clock (via the P2 setting in Nvidia Inspector) 100 MHz below its default value of 3505 MHz (1502 MHz as shown in GPU-Z), and still got multiple crashes daily, often two or three in rapid succession. Given the generally good capabilities of the Maxwell chips, it must have been something else.

That something else was VirtualBox, which I was running for the Cosmology@Home project under BOINC. And I had similar errors when running the CERN projects ATLAS and vLHC under VirtualBox. So I got rid of VBox, and have had no errors for two days at the EVGA clock settings for that GTX 970 running other BOINC projects that do not use VBox. Problem solved.

Correct. Overclocking by a small amount shouldn't cause any heat issues, but can easily result in instability. Unfortunately the solution to instability when overclocking is to use more voltage. And that leads to more heat.

No; in fact VBox does not support GPUs at all at the moment. I was using VBox 5.0.14, and I think GPU support is (or was) on their to-do list for Version 5, but apparently they ran into difficulties. So all the VirtualBox projects are all CPU at the moment. But maybe it is some half-baked implementation of GPU support that led to the current problems? I really don't know at this point, but I have seen it enough by now (on more than one machine, in different forms) to realize that the problem exists.

The goog thing is there is no "bad state" error which will fail after some 3 retries.
This unknown_enum 127 error can be resumed many times and will run to finish successfully.

@RipD: In your other thread viewtopic.php?f=50&t=28588 you wrote limit the GPU temp to 75°C fixed folding issues.
Maybe you want to limit it to 70°C just to test if the unkown_enum 127 goes away?

Does someone else got unknown_enum 127 with this work unit?

This WU has been returned ONCE for credit: WU (P13103 R5 C5 G34) was added to the stats database on 2016-02-13 22:09:23 for 31023.4 points of credit.
There are no reports of that WU getting as far as uploading as an error. Since 0x7f is generous in allowing many retries, this proves nothing.

(If Stanford decides that the 07f error is enough of a problem to try to fix it, they can alter the code to force the incomplete results to upload with the intent of capturing a WU in it's failed state.

That may not be possible, however. since it apparently always resumes successfully from the previous checkpoint and proceeds toward completion. Under that sort of condition, the very idea of capturing in in a failed state is difficult to comprehend. Conditions which produce one result the first time and a second result a second time are called "Instabilities" for a reason. They're also seriously detrimental to science.)
