Viewer Still Not Showing Visualization

Post by evotuc »

The visualization is seriously missed. Not necessary, but sorely missed. It is what made the PS3 client so exciting. It would be nice to show folks what my computer is doing, when I'm trying to explain what protein folding is. Is the feature being worked on?

Welcome for the forum evotuc,

can't agree more with you. But its "only" missing for GPU projects; for CPU project its still working, isn't it ? Use those to explain ;-)
The bug is reported; but unfortunately not very high on the todo list due to resource constraints with available developer. So we need to wait a bit more.

It is working for CPU, thank you! The CPU client is the first thing I remove when starting up F@H. I was under the impression that it's effect was minimal and not worth the electricity and lag. It will work great for explanations, though. Thanks again! And let's hope to get the GPU viewer up soon. :D

Don't hold your breath, it's a user feature with no value to the science, so on past experience not likely to get anything but low priority. PG have a large backlog of bug reports and feature requests, not just for the Viewer. On the positive side, they are trying to recruit extra programming resource people.

Sorry to disagree, but, it's a feature that makes folding exciting to potential new folders. It could mean a lot more work units being turned in.

I don't disagree in any way. Those who make the decisions have historically put the priorities elsewhere -- where they see a more direct benefit to producing better (and, with faster cores, more) scientific results. We can only hope their view is more correct than ours.

In any case, discussing it here is unlikely to change anything. When you want to get a message to the Pande Group's management, please post on the reddit forum. Foldingorum.org is a user-supported way to get help with the features that DO work for others and we can't do anything about features which have not yet been incorporated into the FAH software.
