No difference to Folding that I can discern.
Game optimizations only.

The way I read it it has better support for Kepler and fermi chipsets, so now I probably won't have to run a driver that's over a year old anymore on my 770s. If somebody could confirm this because I have no idea what chipset the 770 has, all I know it's not the same as the 780.

I wouldn't have thought it would make any difference, if it works for a GK110 then it should work for a GK104.

Drivers that were released to support the GK110 have been reported to cause the older series GPU's to run folding much slower. Many recommend using the 327 release of the drivers for folding on anything older than the GK110 for that reason.

Unfortunately, there's still a 10% drop in PPD on a core 17 WU on Maxwell compared with 340.52.

Yeah the maxwell is a more recent chipset, so that wouldn't make any change, but I am more hoping that I could fold on my 770 with the newest drivers and don't have to make certain projects run for 2 days that could else run in 6 or 8 hours. I want to do this folding but also play some games and unfortunately that doesn't work with drivers that are over a year old, so could anyone confirm that the gtx 770 is either base on the kepler or fermi chipset, because later drivers are not optimized for my card and folding while the other chipset seem to work fine with the latest drivers.
If someone can confirm my 770 works at similar speeds compared to drivers that are over a year old then I would be very happy because downgrading and upgrading the drivers each time I need that is just a too painfull experience.

Easy to find the chip type on the 770. Also indicated in the FAH log file. When it shows the GPU type. GK110 would be Kepler. GF104 would be Fermi.
But neither the driver version or the GPU type will tell you if the driver is fixed. The driver is not fixed. It's been broken all year long since the 327.xx driver came out. That's the last one to work well.
However, if you can get the v55 fahcore_17, that has a workaround built in so you can use a driver newer than 327 and not lose 50% speed. YMMV.

Is there a special trick to get the v55 fahcore_17? Or should I just look out for beta builds?

I don't know the current status of v55. I can't find any definitive reports -- the "beta" phase seems to have petered out. It was available on beta (join the beta team) or advanced, but I don't think I ever got a v55 WU.
The core version is determined by the project, if you get an appropriate WU it will download v55. Other than by using the Advanced (or Beta) flags to allow the higher risk WUs, you can't control it.
