Not all CUDA cores are the same, just like all CPU cores are NOT the same. Would you rather have a four core Q6600 or a four core 4770K ? Both have the same number of Intel cores!?

The GTX 980 uses roughly the same amount of power as the GTX 770.

My 980s aren't being recognized. Does anyone know the gpu name I need to add to the txt file? Either that or a tip on getting the cards recognized would be greatly appreciated.

You need to download an updated GPUs.txt file, it was just updated earlier today to include the 980 - viewtopic.php?f=83&t=24249&p=268761#p268761. Further information on this file can be find here - viewtopic.php?f=83&t=26208.

Let us know if it works once you finish your first WU on the card! The 980 and 970 cards look great in terms of power, efficiency, and value. Assuming they finish WUs without stability issues, this will be a great buy for other folders.

Having read several reviews of the GTX 980/970 I've come to a conclusion that they are really excellent GPUs (especially for multi-monitor games, high frame rates, really sharp video) and they're really good for FAH, as well. On the other hand if my primary interest is in FAH, without the need for spectacular video, filling multiple slots with 750Ti's might be a less expensive alternative.
Comments, anybody?

Bruce: Since the 980 and 970 use the second-generation Maxwell architecture that is better than the first-gen used in the 750 and 750ti, it might be worth the wait for the 960 or whatever Nvidia has coming up. They usually release the high-end cards in a given series first, so there might be some more good deals in the 9xx series not too far away.

I would tend to agree, really considering getting the msi k9a2's and the p6n plats out and when the eco versions are launched shoving 4 of them in...
Have we got a due date? What is weird is that i can get the new 980's for less on trade than 780s!
