Lost QRB Points

Post by jazzi »

I recently upgraded the motherboard and CPU in my folding computer and have lost receipt of QRB points. Not only have my points gone down significantly, my base points and estimated credit are the same. I have successfully completed 166 WUs and accumulated 1.4 million points for my team. I don't believe I've dropped below the 80% threshold for successful WUs. Any idea what could be causing this?

I installed an AsRock Z87 Extreme 6 motherboard with Intel 4770k CPU, overclocked to 4.4Ghz, stable. The GPU is the GTX770, running Windows 8.1.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks.

The first thing to check is whether your passkey is entered into the client. The fact that the estimated and base points are the same usually points to no passkey having been entered.

I guess it was the same one that has been there all the time, but to be safe I just re-entered it.

When you do, make certain there are no extra blank characters before or after the passkey in the field. That is one of the more common problems we see.

If after the current WU you still don't get QRB, please post your log showing the initial part with system information and configuration as well as the WU being processed.

Wow! Since my last post my (estimated PPD) has dropped another 20,000. I was averaging over 70,000 a day before the "upgrade" in equipment. Now it estimates 13,000.

Not sure what happened, but all of a sudden my (estimated) PPD shows 108,000. CPU however still shows no QRB.

I've noticed that you have

Code: Select all

<next-unit-percentage v='100'/>
While that won't alone account for the PPD drop you mentioned, it will introduce several minutes of idle time each day between completing the previous work unit and downloading the next.

Depending on the WU, it's actually preferable to do that rather than have a downloaded WU sat for 10+ minutes not being worked on, all the time during which any QRB is being reduced...

Jazzi, if your username is the same as your folding name, then EOC stats are showing 16 WUs for no points in a recent update - if they were all failures and not an artefact of the stats server downtime, then that might have damaged your eligibility for bonus. Any sign of failures at your end?
If everything looks OK but still no bonus, then I guess you could get a new passkey, rack up 10 units in an hour or so on the NaCl and see if bonus starts again?

I've also calculated PPD with a variety of projects and next-unit-percentages and found my highest was universally 100%. The amount of time waiting for one frame to complete (i.e. getting the WU at 99%) invariably was longer than the download + upload time used. I suppose that if the frame times were fast enough and the transfer times were slow enough then it could change. For me, that just wasn't happening. My frame times typically were between 3-12 minutes and transfer time would be less than 1 minute so 100% was best..

If that's the case, once the percentage of completed WUs returns to the 80% level, will the QRB return or is this passkey permanently prevented from further QRBs?

And yes, user name and folding name are the same.

Thanks.

Although I don't have the research to support my suspicion, I assumed the 100% was more efficient.

Thanks for confirming my suspicion.

My understanding is that bonus will return once 80% is again reached. (That is, 80% successful completion of eligible units. ie. excluding core_15 WUs)

Is there any sign of failed WUs from your end? If not, then just keep folding and it is likely the bonus points will return shortly through qualification of whatever passkey is entered

If there is a potential issue with the 80% return rate, anyone can PM any moderator with the folding username and passkey and the moderator will check to see if the passkey is below 80% or not.
