I have been running fine for months with no issues. I'm running the fah6 client on linux. Anybody got any ideas/advice? I also did a tcpdump while starting the client up and I do see where a connection is made to vsp10v-vz00.stanford.edu (171.67.108.200) and there's data exchanged.

The link may have been broken when a couple topics on this subject were merged. The PG is aware of the problem and are looking into fixing it. See Dr. Pande's post in one of the merged topics.

Hi,

I am also having the same problem, for about 3 hours now NAWSWA. I did shut down and reboot the whole system, modem, router, computers, problem continues. My connection has been strong and fast all along.

Guess I will let it work itself out, I hope, as I am going to bed right now. Check back in the morning

The second link seems to have little to do with our problem.

With no information about your system, or log to look at, your problem may or may not be related. However from the log given by the original poster, he has a system with limited RAM and a Pentium M processor. Lack of WU assignments for low power or older systems is what that whole thread that Dr. Pande posted in is about. What is your system configuration?

Why did you decide to trace route to 171.64.65.142?

Stanford adds servers and servers go off-line from time to time and that's not the address of any of the servers listed on serverstat. You can't just decide that some arbitrary server X.X.X.X has WUs for you. The failure of trace to that server means nothing. Apparently that server is no longer being used. The Assignment Server is responsible for finding a server that has WU that fit the requirements of your system and when it can't find one, neither can you.

Your client reports your hardware and software to the AS and it makes the decision from that point onward. We need to figure out why there is currently no server that has work for your particular machine. From everything I can tell, I see no reason there should be a shortage of work for a GenuineIntel, Family: 6, Model: 7, Stepping: 10 (Core 2 Quad Q9650) with 3071 MB running Win7/32b; v6.34 and set for -smp -advmethods.

Server which in recent days (from 21 Jan 2013) communicate with the client - 128.143.199.96
Removing -advmethods, nothing changes.

Other computer in the office i5 2500K Win7/64b v6.34 has the same settings. Currently working well :?

This morning, the client continues to attempt to connect. The problem was on this computer. I deleted everything except the client v6.34, Core_a3/a4 and client.cfg. I guess something in any of those deleted files has changed.
Now received p7200 :D

This morning I noticed that another computer can not receive new WUs (about 30 hours):

Code: Select all

[06:18:10] Initial: 0000; + No appropriate work server was available; will try again in a bit.
[06:18:10] + Couldn't get work instructions.
I noticed that in the folder "work" missing file "core78.sta".

After deleting some things (everything, except the client v6.34, Core_a3/a4 and client.cfg), client download new WU.

Can anyone give an explanation why this is happening?

The Assignment Server is searching for any Work Server that has WUs that fit your requirements.

From your end, the requirements include OS, Hardware, Client(slot)-type, Proxy/firewall settings, Parameters which express donor requests, etc. as well as all of the information shown on the serverstat page. Without ALL of that information, there's no obvious answer.

You can answer your own question if you can explain to me how your system is different from other similar systems which are getting assignments.

Do you see a work server that has assignments that match your request?
