Adding FAH use to my PC *QUESTION*

Im adding the GPU3 client and the CPU client, for some reason the smp doesnt work (athlon x2 3800+).
The question im asking is i am a regular bit torrent user i do alot of p2p, and since returning to active folding for my university with these new clients it seems to be ZAPPING my download speeds on uTorrent.
My normal DL speed total maxes at 1.1MB/second now all my downloads are going <10kb/s.
Is this something that FAH is known to do? does it take up that much bandwith? I am also on a home network wifi of 3 computers, how will this effect the other computers on my network? I have opened ports 80 and 8080 on my linksys router.
My FAH user name is prolecat.
I also have some questions about the amount of processes running related to FAH, i have a screen shot of this but idk how to post it here. I am running 2 regular FAH systray clients one normal one for my CPU and one for my GPU which is a gts250 and seems to be performing quite well, working way faster and bigger WUs than my CPU. On top of that i have the FAH GPU TrackerV2, and i cant figure out that it shows my performance for my GPU but not my CPU, but the FAH cpu systray client shows work 1850/2000. It almost seems like my GPU is working on 2 WU at once, one with GPU systray, and one with FAH GPU viewer. Ill try to post image
Also is my Athlon X2 too old to be used with the new SMP?

Welcome to the forum prolecat.
FAH should not affect your dl/ul speeds. It is only using bandwidth to ul/dl work, and should have no other effect on the network.
The speed of your cpu is near the low end for running the current SMP WUs, especially the 670x, but you'd have to try it to find out for sure. You'd make more points from SMP, even if you got a minimum speed bonus.
2633 IS an SMP WU. It looks like you're running SMP rather than the CPU client. You'll need to run 24/7 to finish an SMP WU within the deadline.
Do not use the viewer for the GPU client. It is buggy, slows down the client when opened, and serves no purpose whatsoever.
I'm guessing you have 1 GPU and 1 SMP running.
I see core 78 (cpu client) and core a3 (smp client) both listed, so it looks like you started the SMP client once without the -smp flag, causing it to download a classic WU. If it's actually running the CPU WU now, you're probably going to exceed the deadline the 2633 by the time it gets to it.
Check the tops of the logs and post the client versions listed to give us a better idea of whats happening on your machine.

GPU LOG
Gpu type=2 species=30.
CPU LOG
Processing work unit
[06:14:33] Core required: FahCore_a4.exe
[06:14:33] Core found.
[06:14:33] Working on queue slot 01 [November 23 06:14:33 UTC]
[06:14:33] + Working ...
The reason why they both are running is because i first installed regular FAH clients the systray for my CPU and the systray for the GPU3 beta after checking out the forums.
Then i installed a 3rd party "FAH GPU Tracker V2.exe - Shortcut"
It was in there that i chose to try to do SMP with my dual core, but the percentage NEVER moved. It stays on 0.0%. Is this because my systray original installed FAH shows 1800/2000 working on my CPU
So maybe my original install is using my CPU for non SMP, but the 3rd party software is also trying to use the SAME cpu for a SMP WU, however it never moves.
Funny tho, for my GPU it is continually working on the betaGPU3 systray from FAH, and it also working up percentages in the 3rd party program is well. Am i working on 2 WU at once with one GPU? Does that mean im getting extra points ?

Welcome to the folding forum, prolecat.
Some of the things I've written below have already been covered but I'll let you sort through it since I've already written it. (I got involved in a conversation while I was writing so it has taken me a long time to finish writing this post.)
Windows Task Manager shows the following:
FahCore_11 (GPU)
FahCore_11 (GPU)
FahCore_78 (Uniprocessor)
FahCore_a3 (SMP)
FahCore_a4 (Uniprocessor)
Each client starts one FahCore. Clearly you've got too many clients running. I'm not sure how you've done that, but the first thing to do is figure out which clients you should be running and stop the others. Until that's taken care of, I wouldn't expect the information that you've reported to mean much.
FAH doesn't use much bandwidth. Each client processes an assignment for quite a while during which no bandwidth is used, the result is uploaded and then it gets a new assignment. Uploading and downloading do take a considerable amount of bandwidth but only until the files are moved.
Stanford does not test FAH with torrent. There are a few reports from folks who have talked their experiences on our forum.

To run the SMP WU you downloaded, click pause when done on the cpu systray client. It will finish, upload, and wait. Once it reaches that point, stop it and try to start the SMP instead.
This is what I meant by top of the logs.
Code: Select all
# Windows GPU Console Edition #################################################
###############################################################################
Folding@Home Client Version 6.40r1
http://folding.stanford.edu
###############################################################################
###############################################################################
Launch directory: C:\gpu 0
Executable: C:\gpu 0\[email protected]
Arguments: -gpu 0 -verbosity 9
With that we can verify which client version you have and which flags are active.
I'm using this for my sig.
