i'm working with a single core setup but want to go to a quad setup i have tried a few times , do i have to remove the single setup from the pc first before i do anything ,

No, but it may avoid future confusion if you do.

My recommedation (ignore it if it's not for you) is to download the drop-in beta SMP console v6.30 from the bottom of this page:http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther

Stop FAH, find the current client .exe and simply replace it with the new download. It is quite capable of finishing the current WU. Moreover if you add the -smp flag, either in your shortcut or in the "extra parameters" configuration setting, the next WU that is downloaded should use all of your CPUs. It's probably worth running through the configuration menu again, just to be sure, but that's probably not necessary.

you have lost me i was going to download and setup 4 seperate units as my pc is only working 3 or 4 hours a day so a smp does not suit ( from advice given here before ) the single and left overs from the 4 core setup ( trys ) are in the pc so i'll remove everything to do with folding and try the 4 core again , am i right in what i just said

if i can't get it to work can i get my account back for the single core

Don't change anything yet, as we should go with 4 individual CPU clients in this instance.

Is client #1 a console or Systray client? And do you want 2,3,4 to be the same?

And before we go any further, I just want to confirm that the computer is fast enough so the #1 cpu client was completing work units before the deadline, even when running just a few hours a day. No need to setup 3 more if the first isn't getting the job done. Thanks.

7im is right. You need 4 classic clients, not SMP. Ignore my previous post.

i have 4 core 4gb ram so its fast enough

i would like 4 icons in the task bar so that i can see their progress

Do you want to run F@H as a service, so it's invisible?

If so, download this file and make 4 folders.

Copy this file into each folder.

Go into the first folder, double click the file, and go through the steps of typing in your username and team number.

When it asks if you want to change advanced options, say yes. Accept the defaults, but when it asks "Start as a service...." say yes.

When you're done with configuration and it begins to download the core, press Ctrl+C to stop it.

Repeat this for the the second, third and fourth folders you created, do exactly rhe same but change the "Machine ID" from the default of 1, to 2/3/4 respectively to avoid conflicts.

Once all four setups have been completed, go to start - run - type services.msc and press enter. Find the four Folding@Home services, and start them all.

Four copies of F@H will now run in the background, with no visible indication that they're present. If you want to keep an eye on them, I recommend HFM.NET.




If you'd rather not have them run as services, just accept the default "no" for "Start as a service..." and it will just run when you've done the configuration,

however this will give you four command prompt windows for F@H.

Those instruction are good ones. There are probably other methods of setting them up, but they really wouldn't be any easier ... just different. Switching to SMP is easier, but it's not a good solution for you.

The step "Once all four setups have been completed...run ervices.msc ..." could be replaced with "Reboot" if that sounds simpler.
