Can't find client download.

Post by FEAR6655 »

For months now the Stanford site has been down for me for some reason, so I am unable to download the Nvidia GPU3 client. Could someone please upload it to a mirror as I have been trying to download it for weeks.

It's against policy to repost the client. What happens when you click on this link? http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther What do you see? Is there an error message?

Can you ping that server? Try running a traceroute to the address of the download server, and post the results here.

I get a Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. No page from Stanford loads, the entire domain in inaccessible for me. Tracert returns "Unable to resolve target system name" for all Stanford URL's.

Sounds like a firewall issue, because it's certainly working for me (and probably everyone else)

Code: Select all

C:\>ping folding.stanford.edu

Pinging proxy1.stanford.edu [171.67.216.21] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 171.67.216.21: bytes=32 time=80ms TTL=45
Reply from 171.67.216.21: bytes=32 time=77ms TTL=46
Reply from 171.67.216.21: bytes=32 time=80ms TTL=46
Reply from 171.67.216.21: bytes=32 time=76ms TTL=46

Ping statistics for 171.67.216.21:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 76ms, Maximum = 80ms, Average = 78ms
It sounds like a DNS issue. Are you able to ping 171.67.216.21 directly?

Do you have any DNS settings configured in your broadband router?

If yes, fix them, or reset the router back to factory defaults. If no, call your ISP. They shouldn't be blocking Stanford, unless you live in one of the overly-restrictive Middle Eastern or Asian countries.

If you cannot remedy this with your router or ISP, you could also try something like http://www.opendns.com

I live in New Zealand, ISP's don't filter internet here, so I don't know. I have no trouble accesssing any other site on the internet except Stanford. No DNS settings are configured, and I havn't changed them in years and I have been able to access the site before. I guess I'll give the ISP a call and see what the story is.

So you're saying that ping with the site-name goes through but you can't open in in your browser. That's some kind of browser security issue. Since the FAH client seems to have the same issue, it's probably a firewall issue. Temporarily disable your security suite and confirm you can open the stanford site.

If you can't access the Standford site to download the GPU3 BETA Client, have you tried to download from this location: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=14671#p144510 which is the official announcement of GPU3 BETA Client by Prof. Vijay.

I can ping the IP you posted, but not http://www.stanford.edu or any of its sub-domains, just returns could not find host. I have the same problems on all 3 computers and the Playstation 3.

@PantherX: I cannot access http://www.stanford.edu or any of its subdomains at all.

OK, that is DNS.

In each machine, ipconfig (or ifconfig) should report which DNS you're pointing to. They're probably point to your router and it is probably pointing to your ISP. You should be able to manually add an alternate DNS server either to each machine or to your router setup.

I'd consider adding http://www.opendns.com as has already been suggested.

Assuming your router does point to your ISP, then giving them an opportunity to fix it is also an option, though somewhat slower.

Some viruses mess with your DNS, and your etc/hosts file, though I've never seen one that clobbered stanford.edu.

Do you run PeerGardian or similar ? Some people have reported that this kind of software are quite aggressive in their setting and prevent access to EDU domains ... :?
