Problem with my F@H points?

Post by Arky »

So I've been folding for a short while, about 2 months. Well, the very first few updates gt me to 742 points. It's been a very long time and my points haven't changed at all. My username is keyblade01 folding for team jiggmin #143016. Any help?

Hello Arky and welcome to the forum

What's your hardware specs (e.g. CPU model and speed, memory, etc.) and what operating system do you use?
What client do you use?
It might also help to see your log file. If you are using a system tray client, your log file will be found in %APPDATA%\Folding@Home-x86 (you can type that directly into Windows Explorer). If you are using the console/command line interface client, your log file will be found in the folder the client is located in.
Paste your log file (between the tags to make it more easily readable) in your next post so we can see what's going on.

I am currently using a Windows XP Hewlett Packerd, with F@H v6.23. I do look at my log files once in a while, and it never says anything about errors. I have 1.00GB of ram and 1.79 ghz. Sorry about not putting this in earlier.

You've only completed 2 wus. And you only get points for completed ones.

Youre very slow, like my laptop, so don't expect much more than what your doing now.

Project 5114 is a biggish project at 749 points, but you do seem to be very slow. What else are you running on the computer at the same time that might be slowing it? Also check that it's not going into a sleep mode or similar. I have folded with a 1.4 GHz laptop that was slow but could do a unit like that in less than a week so would expect faster things on yours. you suggest is was faster initially? What has changed as it looks like you've completed other units the same size.
Welcome to folding.
kiore.

PS Oh and how are you shutting it down? see some previous termination was incorrect messages. <<edit out incorrect statement, see below, sorry>> should have said how do you quit it? Not thinking as use the console with ctrl c for quit.

No, no, no. Do not use the "Pause" function of the systray client before you "quit". That increases the chance of lost work. If you "pause" you must "unpause" before you "quit"

That's the problem. Since you're using the systray client, shut it down by right-clicking it and selecting Quit before your shut down Windows.
On the other hand, you could also add the -forceasm parameter so the core will always use assembly optimizations, no matter how it was shut down.

if i may add to this point about TERMINATION , i had to stop the pc twice with the tower button and lost my folding that was taking place , but i learnt that if you turn of the wall plug and close down everything that way you loose nothing , prehaps it should be tried by a few people when they start a new wu and then pass it on

Or you could make periodic WU backups...
