This one tried to run five times and then finally shut down for gpu NANs and going over the EUE limit. Just passing along FYI. All other WUs processing fine. I'm pretty new to folding so two questions. 1 - Should I bother posting these? 2 - I've looked without success. What the heck is a NAN?

NaN means Not a Number ... in programming world, you get this error in mathematic operations when a result is expected to be a number (binary number) and it's not, because of calculation error or hardware bug (this "not a number" can be a value out of range in the type of data used for result ... or a CPU exception). Complete definition : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NaN

In FAH, it has two causes : simulation instability or hardware (or anything related) instability (because of overclocking or bad hardware).

Yes.

We do monitor these reports carefully and it's the only way that I know to determine which WUs are structurally bad and which ones may have had a problem on a single machine but work correctly on another machine.

Ah, right. Should we post all EUEs or just NaNs? I seem to get mostly guarded run errors soon after a WU starts (of the errors I get, most WUs run fine).

Depends on which client and work units, and even the EUE message. Or if the client or work units are in beta testing, and whether a few natural EUEs are expected or not.

An occasional NaN, yes. Repeated NaNs, no, because your hardware caused the problem. And the fah wiki suggests how and when to report EUEs, although the entry is not 100% definitive. http://fahwiki.net/index.php/Early_Unit ... rting_EUEs
